The 'Wait For Me' Blips
when i was 19 years old i worked in an independent record-store/head-shop in darien connecticut, named 'johnnys'.
part of my job at johnny's was to draw a little cartoon on every single bag that left the store, which was odd, as i didn't know how to draw. but i came up with a quasi-self portrait ('the little idiot'), and now after all these years he's still around on the cover of 'wait for me', in the 'pale horses' video, and also in these 'blips' that we've made for every track on the album.
what is a 'blip'? good question. a 'blip' is a 30 second animated music video. and we've made 16 of them (as there are 16 songs on the record). we'll be launching some now, and some later. i hope you like them.

These Blips are "CUTE"
This is too cute!
Something else that I should have added
(As I write this wet from having just took a shower, but wanting to write it before I forget it amidst of when I'm thinking of it, since I am so busy and my ADD may make me forget to respond. Tis best that I write it now so as not to forget.)
Whenever I've been in a relationship and my companion is hard on me or yells at me, I have the habit of leaving, driving away as I dont' like contention at all. I'm like a scared little puppy dog in the corner and I just want to get out and leave the screaming and ill feelings. I don't like bad confrontation or any sort of screaming and especially if a man trys to contend with me and seemingly is trying to provoke me to take action by screaming at him too, well I cannot handle that, I don't want it and so the best way for me to deal with it is to get myself away from him and the entire situation. Therefore, the 'Wait for Me' video I can so relate to darling.
Ever so amazed at how *you* know how to read me darling.
I Love *You*,
Your Dancing Angel Rachelle

Awwww, I couldn't wait to watch the new blip
or read this journal. I figured the blip would be short, as are your others and I could take the time this busy morning and oh my, the new 'Wait for Me' blip is so sad my love. It makes me think of myself back when I was in an uhappy and unhealthy marriage (I use to listen to your play album while driving then and your song 'Why does my heart feel so bad' would make me so teary eyed most especially), in the brink of seperation and then divorce and also brink of break ups with the many wedding engagements that never did become weddings that I have had. I feel *you* ever so much. You feel *me ever so much. We are intertwined and ever so connected!!! Sighs..... *You* know my pain, worries, anxieties and emotions ever so well. I'm amazed the more I get to know *you* darling. Kisses. *You* move me darling.
I love *You* ever so much Moby Richard Melville Hall.
Hugs & Kisses,
Your Love Always Rachelle

Back in 1999/2000 'Play'
Back in 1999/2000 'Play' soundtracked my marrige break up and subsequent divorce. During this time I would find myself having to drive a 100 mile round trip to visit my son, usually resulting in painful goodbye's and long lonesome drives home. It became ritual to listen to 'Play' as I drove homeward usually under a Californian sunset, with each track reflecting part of that journey.
The first half of the LP with it's upbeat radio hits and 'singable' hook lines would keep me elevated and distracted as I hit the coast road, but as the sun sank slowley in the west, a more emotional darkness would creep upon me. The last of the days light would be disappearing when I reached 'If Things Were Perfect' and I would suddenly feel totally alone in the world.
'Inside' has a feel of late night freeway travel, which will always take me back to a busy 101 heading down into San Jose. Depending on the traffic, some nights the whole CD would finsh before I reached home, and I would let the silence seep into me as drove the last few miles. Sometimes I would arrive at the house early, but I always sat and listened to 'My Weakness' before getting out of the car.
But life moves on and so did I. I love all of Moby's work, especially 'Play', it no longer has the association to the pain of that time. But music has an enormous power to take you back to a momment in time, and even now I sometimes find myself back on that dark freeway...
Another Play story
I also have a very strong emotional attachment to Play, but in a good way.
Play served as the soundtrack to the early part of the courtship between my wife and I as we got re-acquainted after many, many years of being apart. To this day, I can pop in the disc and it will bring joyful tears to my eyes.
Shortly after we got together in the fall of 2000 we caught Moby on tour with Hybrid. The show was fantastic, but the highlight was when he played a cover of Purple Rain in honor of the great purple one. That was the first song my wife and I danced to years before in Jr High. It felt like he played it just for us :)
Anyway, thanks for the music Moby, and thanks for playing us our song when you were in Minneapolis!
I was an aspiring programmer
I was an aspiring programmer a decade ago, and your tracks on 'Play' provided the background to many a coding and study session. I lost some of the excitement for your music here over the years - well enough produced but lacking some of the essence and soul that made Play so remarkable.
I am quite excited, ten years later, to be prepared to be using your new album as background (and foreground, sologround, soleground, soulground) music as I manage the development team that I work with. Returning to the long drives and quiet nights and pleasant moments with your music providing the soundtrack.
The snippets of your new album that I have caught are fantastic. Congrats on making another album that is so clearly yours. An exciting example of people being drawn to authenticity.
Also, if you get the chance, do a stop in Anchorage, AK? Off the beaten path but phenomenal this time of year and a place in dire need of some more musical excellence.
Background is the word
I couldn't agree more with gemils...
you music (for me especially "18") provided the background(, sologround etc) for my studying, working and relaxing. Your new album seems to be that kind of awesome album again! im so excited!
Cool 'blips'
These are similar to the blips that were made for '18'. I love Study War and the video is superb. Can't wait to here the rest of the song. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the blips.
