last night the house of representatives passed health care reform legislation

"the republican opposition to health care reform was blatant fear-mongering, unconstrained either by the facts or by any sense of decency."

-paul krugman.

last night the house of representatives passed health care reform legislation.

what this means: 32,000,000 people who didn't have access to health care will now be insured and have access to health care.

the cost of health care for senior citizens will come down.

insurance companies will not be able to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, nor will they be able to deny people health care once they're covered.

people will not lose their health care when they lose their job.

and many other things, all of which benefit the citizens of the united states, but none of which benefit the insurance companies. president obama and the democrats fought tirelessly and courageously to pass this legislation. and it's worth remembering that not a SINGLE republican voted for it. the republicans, to paraphrase paul krugman, engaged in fear-mongering and distortion and slander, all to blindly do the will of the insurance companies. i truly hope that americans remember this moment when they vote in november, remember that the democrats have passed legislation that grants health care to 32,000,000 more americans and that prevents the worst abuses of the insurance companies. the democrats voted for the health of the people. the republicans voted for the health of the insurance companies. i hope that no one forgets that.

Up until now we have seen many health care bills getting passed by the house of representatives but the main thing is to observe whether they get acted successfully or not.It just takes some words to promise but gets very hard to keep it. YourNetBiz

I think that the Americans

I think that the Americans won't even care about this new reform and about any reform. All of them are so ignorant and always try public services no matter that they're twice expensive than a normal private clinic. For instance non 12 step rehab is the best well-known in the country because it cures drug and alcohol addicts without the 12 steps and yet, there are only a few people knowing about this rehab. Most of them go to public ones and mainly none of them gets really cured.

This new health care reform

This new health care reform bill is being seen as a great victory for the President. Hopefully things will change now on and for the better.

There are many teenagers who suffer from a host of personal problems that can lead to depression, huge lowering of confidence and get them to move away from the family and friends and society. If you are a parent who has such similar concerns then I can understand that you are looking out of home treatment.

Boot camps for teenagers is something that can prove to be very beneficial for the child. Surely you would want to research more before arriving at a decision. For more on how your child can benefit from being placed in a boot camp visit our website here

Health WHO cares

I am so sick of all of this.
At 24 years old {1992} I got married. 3 months later I was pregnant. My Husbands Insurance covered me but NOT the pregnancy.
It cost us $17,500. This is with the State Health not his insurance.Care. I had to see Doctors that were residents half asleep, and never the same one twice.
I had a lot of problems, it was scary.
Maybe if I only saw 2-3 Doctors it would have been better.
They had me go every week after my 4th month.
The Hospital basically finally (after tons of tears) told me that since I was white, a college grad, a US citizen and married, well they could only give me a 20% discount.
For months I was sitting waiting, seeing, hearing others talk about their new cars houses on and on. When we left I would see the cars. I went to baby showers at some of these houses.
Why did they get it all free?
Turns out if I had gotten pregnant after 5 months all would have been covered.
So stupid.
Then 2 years ago my Husband was laid off.
Now I have MS and am a diabetic. 0 health care.
Cheapest that would give me even the smallest amount of coverage was $2800.00 a month. My husband makes a fair income but who can afford that plus all it dose not cover?
Now I am in health jeopardy.
It feels like a big game with a lot of questions. I think I know the answers. But someone keeps beating me down with bonus questions.
I am in a lot of pain.
The future scares me. NOW I could be doing stuff to help my future. But I can not afford it.
I want and need coverage. I am willing to pay a fair amount.
But I saw so much miss use.
To be diagnosed with MS, for over a year I was sent to 8 different Doctors. I had 7 MRIs, 4 electric body tests, 3 brain scans, 5 spinal taps and so so so many other tests. I took ALL of this stuff from Dr. to Dr. It weighed a ton!!!
The last Doctor, the one I had wanted to see in the first place is the one who diagnosed me. Said i really only needed 2 of each test over the year.
What a waste.
Ironically a week after it was in my files the company started its layoffs.
My Husband was 1st.
I know this is childish but I am happy the company is now gone.

Faithfully Yours

My opinion

Dear Moby,
I am not apart of the tea party movement, but I am not against it. What is so wrong with them protesting their beliefs? everyone in the media speaks about how sometimes certain people get rowdy, but there are always those that can not control their temper from any group of people. Most of the tea party is made up of reasonable American citizens.

To add on to your previous post about glenn beck, as of Thursday, March 25th, 2010 this is what glenn beck had to say about SOCIAL JUSTICE, ' SOCIAL JUSTICE SHOULD COME FROM PEOPLE AND FROM GOD NOT THE GOVERNMENT." So now you know that he does believe in social justice.

There are lots of things that I do disagree with Glenn Beck about but at the same time hate speaches against him make me question the motives of the other side. He has told no one to hate, only to 'question with boldness'. Which is what we should do at any time.

I agree with all of the health care reform myself, except for the gov. mandate. That still troubles me, because what if you want to live out in the middle of no where without any outside assistance (for whatever the reason)... as of 2014 you will be violating the law just by being alive if you do not have health insurance, and that is not freedom. Despite this I am still happy that they at least passed something, now I just hope that they are willing to do as president obama promised and work with the people (not just the ones who agree with him) on amending what we feel to be suspicious about it.

I also feel that if the pres. is a socialist why can he not just be honest about that? quit trying to cover up your beliefs and be honest, that's what I say! He sure does hang around a lot of radicals. I am not totally against it, I myself was raised by hippies...lol

an Independent,
Caelum

why this health care system is wrong?

to ppl who criticize this reform, let me explain you something:

1. i was born in belgium where i think, there is one of the best social system. you have the national office for social security. Workers and non-workers pay taxes to this office. Then this office divide those taxes between 5 other offices
-health care and invalidity: everyone is covered in belgium, if you break your ankle you can go to the ER and you pay almost nothing, or if you have an accident and you can't work anymore, well you got money every month like a real salary so you can pay your house, your car, your food!
- unemployment: if you lose your job, well you got paid, like a real salary for the time you find an other job so you don't have to lose your car, your house and you don't have to live on the streets
paid vacations: you work hard the whole year, well then you have one month of paid vacations
- retirement at age of 62-65 well you think you worked hard since about 40years, well you can stop working and you get paid until you die, so you can pay your house, your car, your food and enjoying your life
- family allocations: you have one kid ok so you got 200euros/month to educate this kid, pay his school, his clothes, etc; you have 2 kids, well you got a little bit more than 200, etc

2. i think this health care reform is a good thing. what do you think about america? i love the US but the US are supposed to be a country of freedom, of hope, of wellness, no? do you think normal if you live in a country of freedom, to not have acces to health care???

3. i think ppl who are not ok with this reform are egoistic and egocentric! you don't want that your taxes go to good things, maybe you prefer that yourtaxes are going to rich fuel companies or to the director of your SUV's company.

4. conclusion: think "social" everyone has the same rights than you, if you think you have the right to have health care insurance, think that your neighbor has the same right

well David Sedaris said..

that when he broke his arm here in the states, he paid thousands to get it fixed. He said if he had flown home to France, stayed in an expensive hospital, and received the same treatment as he got in the states, it would have been cheaper.

I hope this ushers a new

I hope this ushers a new beginning, a positive beginning in the lives of the people who for years have had to pay for health care from their pockets just because hospitals would hand them huge medical bills which the health insurance companies would refuse to pay for after a certain slab.

Australia in that sense is a more progressive country and the government there understand that medical and health care in today's time can be very expensive and beyond the reach of some people.

If you are looking for a job as a medical practitioner in Australia but are not sure how to apply with your resume and where to approach to look for job then Doctor Locums Australia can help you find your dream job. Terrible

I pay for my health insurance out of pocket. This new law may result in my costs increasing so dramatically that I'll have to drop my coverage and instead pay the annual fine. Fortunately, while I won't have health insurance any longer, someone too lazy to apply for Medicaid will get covered.

fascistocare

really? this corporatist/fascist abomination counts as a victory for the little guy? as if our healthcare system wasn't already enough of a fascist sinkhole for you? this bill doesn't benefit the insurance industry? who do you think wrote the legislation?!

PS: go back to your books (if you have ever read some in your life) to REALLY STUDY what is socialism as defined by theories and pratics.

Which has N-O-T-H-I-N-G, but absolutly NOTHING to do with caring for social matters in a society.

YOU ARE FIRED.

Re:

Lets go back to some basic notions

Social issues
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Social issues are matters which directly or indirectly affect many or all members of a society and are considered to be problems, controversies related to moral values, or both.
Social issues include poverty, violence, pollution, injustice, suppression of human rights, discrimination, and crime, as well as abortion, gay marriage, gun control, and religion, to name a few.
Social issues are related to the fabric of the community, including conflicts among the interests of community members, and lie beyond the control of any one individual.

---I think that health is about poverty and public health issues...---

Communism
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Communism is a social structure in which classes are abolished and property is commonly controlled, as well as a political philosophy and social movement that advocates and aims to create such a society.[1]
Karl Marx posited that communism would be the final stage in society, which would be achieved through a proletarian revolution and only possible after a socialist stage develops the productive forces, leading to a superabundance of goods and services.[2][3]

--when I look closely and even from far, I dont see, the health care is about destroying one property to allocate it to the proletarian class....---

I hope it will settle things in your mind.

A Timeline

Wow, I haven't posted here in about a decade. Where did the forum go?

Here is an interesting time line I'd like for readers to consider, and comment on:

1913 - the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 is passed, and the Federal Reserve Bank becomes the private central bank of the US.

1921 - West Virginia becomes the first state to implement a sales tax. Other states follow suit, the stock market crashes in 1929 and by 1933 the US is declared bankrupt.

1933 - the Federal Reserve Bank bails out the federal government with the understanding that "social security" will be implemented, with the American people pledged as collateral in order to repay the debt.

1935 - as part of the "New Deal," FDR signs the Social Security Act of 1935.

1936 - the first Social Security office opens in Austin, TX, and the American people begin to repay their debt to the Federal Reserve.

1939 - citizens cannot afford food, and the first Food Stamp Program is implemented by the US Department of Agriculture.

1970 - the Environmental Protection Agency is established, enticing heavy industry to begin pulling out of the United States.

1974 - citizens cannot afford housing, and the Section 8 program is created under Nixon.

1975 - industry is now leaving the country at an alarming rate, people cannot find work, and the Earned Income Tax Credit is implemented for the unemployed.

2008 - the automobile industry collapses almost entirely, and is bailed out by the Auto Industry Financing and Restructuring Act of 2008.

2008 - subprime mortgage crisis. Individuals or couples with a combined income of, say, 80,000.00 have been borrowing 600,000.00+ for their homes. Lenders are bailed out by the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008.

2009 - American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. As of today's date, a grand total of 608,203 jobs have been "created" as a result of the 787,000,000,000.00 bill (http://www.recovery.gov/Pages/home.aspx)

2009 - access to health care is made "universal" by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2009.

So heavy industry is gone. We manufacture nothing in this country, can hardly sustain ourselves agriculturally, and contribute no substantial good or service that the world needs or uses. The only ships this country builds are for its own Navy. Bush nearly tripled the size of the federal government, and federal and state agencies are among the fastest hiring under the current Administration.

I suppose then, the question, is how can we have the audacity to assume that we as a people are entitled to luxuries such as "universal" access to the best health care in the world, clean and affordable public transportation systems in every community, an electric bullet train from Los Angeles to New York, a levee system in Louisiana that's even half adequate.

As a nation we ought to be ashamed. We don't need people peddling around San Francisco on bicycles, taking pictures for their blog. We don't need people padding away on their iMac keyboards, reminiscing about idealistic, wholly academic dreams of a state run Utopia. If there is to be any hope for the United States, these people need to buy a pickup truck, some work boots, learn a skill or trade, and head to the job site at 4:30 AM Monday through Friday. America needs to get back to work.

My $0.02.

Last night was a monumental night indeed my love!!!!!

I actually had tears of joy in my eyes when I heard the news and at first earlier in the evening I was a bit confused and that's when I emailed *you* to help me to understand exactly what was going on and late last night while driving home from Naples and listening to President Obama's Victory Speech a big smile came to me and I realized that it did actually happen, this bill was passed, this bill that so many people kept telling me would never get passed actually did 'pass'. I was so thrilled beyond amazement. What an awesome job that President Obama & all of his supporter's have done to get the reform tot he point that it is now. I feel proud of *you* for all your word of mouth my love. *You* have done so much in spreading the word and being a wonderful example to so many people, including me my darling. Thank *you* for being such an angel!!! Now people will get medical help they need. That's a special thing!!! So many more lives will be saved. It makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside.....Smiles :)

I Love *You* Eternally With All My Heart,

Your Eternal Love Rachelle

Let me ask you something

Let me ask you something -

The Republicans wanted the insurance companies to compete for business. How exactly does that equate to being in their pockets?

It doesn't matter. Within a year they'll all be bankrupt now anyway, and we'll all be begging Barry to save us. Which was always the plan.

When you catch up with the 7 out of 10 Americans who are polling as enraged today, we can talk about it.

What about the rehab centers?

What about the rehab centers? Did this reform include the private rehabilitation institutes? For instance I'm concerned about the drug rehab Los Angeles California and Washington has developed during the years because I wouldn't want these reforms to reach them. The rehab centers are fine just the way they are.

state funded health care is really the best way to go

The most humane way for a government to ensure that all the citizens of it's country can receive good quality health care is of course to make many health care services state funded.

In the country where I live, all citizens have access to hospital care that is completely state funded and free of charge. Most pharmecutical medicines are well subsidised also.

I'd be interested to know what your own thoughts on that are moby, considering that you are a high income earner and will therefore be paying high taxes. Don't you think it would ultimately be better for tax payers money to be used to enable all citizens to access free health care whenever they need to be admitted to hospital, or require the services of specialist doctors through outpatients clinics?

The way that the American health care system works, requiring citizens to have to pay for health insurance in order to access that type of health care has always struck me as being rather horrible. I don't know whether the new legislation there subsidizes some people's health insurance costs or what, but at the end of the day, having a government that is still leaving it up to private, profit making insurance companies to provide for much of people's health care needs makes it seem like your country is still somewhat deficient in social welfare services.

If the Obama led government there made even more of a change to the health care system there such that all citizens had access to free, state funded hospital care, how do you imagine that would go down with most Democratic Party voters?

One Small Step for Mankind. One Giant Leap Behind for Women.

Although I agree that it is a wonderful step toward a healthy America, I am dismayed by the strong arm tactics employed by anti-abortion Democrats (Bart Stupack) to block low-income women from abortion services.

Take a look at what the National Organization for Women has to say:

Fact: The bill contains a sweeping anti-abortion provision. Contrary to the talking points circulated by congressional leaders, the bill passed today ultimately achieves the same outcome as the infamous Stupak-Pitts Amendment, namely the likely elimination of all private as well as public insurance coverage for abortion. It imposes a bizarre requirement on insurance plan enrollees who buy coverage through the health insurance exchanges to write two monthly checks (one for an abortion care rider and one for all other health care). Even employers will have to write two separate checks for each of their employees requesting the abortion rider.

This burdensome, elaborate system must be eliminated. It is there because the Catholic bishops and extremist abortion rights opponents know that it will result in greatly restricting access to abortion care, currently one of the most common medical procedures for women.

nothing is perfect...

..and no one will have the perfect answer to this, and of course, politicians have managed to attach all sorts of stupid little additions on to this. But as one who just had to sign up for state-sponsered health insurance, because of "preexisting condition" riders that put our rates + co-pays + necessary medications at over $18,000.00 a year, for a FAMILY OF THREE (more than my payroll for a year), I can only say - something has to be done. (And this was an improvement over the insurance that cost $36,000.00/year.) If you're not paying for it yourself, you have no idea what it really costs.

Hopefully, in the end, it works out best for everyone. Given my opinion of all politicians, I have my doubts, but maybe...for my daughter's generation.........

Health Care Reform

It's a huge gain for the average American, even if some of them can't see it yet. Now come join the rest of us with universal health care.

Just one question

Why do you think the americans don't see the relevance of this? why so many people just don't care about it?
