tomorrow (or today, as you're reading this) i'm going into a studio in midtown to begin recording the acoustic/orchestral album. thus begins 6 14 hour days. which is great. i love disappearing into big, old studios, where you look up and realize, 'oh, it's 2 a.m, huh, how did that happen?'
i'm really curious to see how the recording goes. the idea is to record with no electronic elements at all. so: piano, live drums, acoustic guitar, strings, stand up bass, etc. at some point i might cheat and introduce a couple of small electronic elements, but for now i really like the idea of keeping everything completely in the acoustic realm. which means: no electric guitars, no computers, no synthesizers, no drum machines, no samplers. i love electric guitars and drum machines and etc, but i want to see what it's like to work without them. who knows, maybe it'll be terrible. and if it's terrible i hope i have the decency to never let anyone hear the recordings... but hopefully the end result will be really warm and inviting. at least that's the hope. even if it ends up being a failure i'm excited to try to record an album in a way that's completely different to how i've worked in the past.
pictures and etc to follow. i get a lot of use out of 'etc'. i usually write 'etc' when i'm being lazy or can't think of anything else to write. etc.

did you know there is actually a Belgian writer called Louis Paul Boon who ended his first novel, 'De voorstad groeit' with "ach, enzovoort enzovoort" ("oh, etcetera etcetera") because he had to end things quickly in order to partake in a literary competition -- which he won?

for me, acoustic music is warm and intimate. i assume it's easier to "make" intimate music when you are alone in your studio. Isn't it more difficult to work with musicians and technicians when you want the result personal ? it's the question of introspection during a creative process and the question of compromises when you work as a team.
just questions..
then, i wonder if you are not a little anxious. i'm sure this new experience will be rich of learning and the album will be beautiful.

You might have heard your songs by String Quartet , and let´s say , I hope you work out better , I enjoy some of the pieces but not all. Let me guess ,"God moving..." , "When it´s cold..." and ????? Sure you will surprise us, but when will we have the chance to listen to it? Should I start saving to flght to NY by the end of this year for a concert? give us a clue. ;)

I'm very much looking forward to a mainly acoustic album darling!!! *You* are going 'All Natural' this time around and that is really lovely!! Perhaps *you* may have some folk songs amidst your album? I think that would be so lovely to add at least one folk style song, I mean, since *you* are doing an acoustic album. But of course you Americans have to be biggest in everything... I have heard... We have nice walls around us for the moment made of snow - of course.
