we're in the middle of rehearsing for the pbs show we're doing at st. anne's in brooklyn on friday. and, oddly, lady gaga is in the next rehearsal room. funny thing about lady gaga is that i remember her when she was promoting burlesque shows at the slipper room on ludlow street. right next door to arlene's, where norah jones and scissor sisters and the strokes and everyone else got their start.
what an odd little stretch of street. about 100 yards of street where: lady gaga, the strokes, tv on the radio, the yeah yeah yeah's, norah jones, me, scissor sisters, interpol, and etc all got their (our) start. maybe they should do a 'walk of fame' on ludlow st. it would be: a-short and b-usually covered in pee from the drunks.
so, back to the st. anne's show friday: it's a normal show, except that we're doing a small acoustic show in the middle of it. so:
30 minutes regular show
20 minutes acoustic
30 minutes regular show
20 minutes encore (assuming we're not being pelted with garbage at this point)
and then next week i'm going into a beautiful studio to begin actually recording songs for the acoustic/orchestral album. and i'll be bringing a video camera in case anyone wants to see what the process is of recording the acoustic/orchestral album. i know that sometimes watching video of records being made is akin to watching paint dry, but maybe there'll be something interesting that we document. or maybe it'll be interesting in 100 years when i'm 144 years old. which would be gross.

Buskers are my new thing at the moment, I've always liked them but now I'm paying more attention, actually watching. Properly. I'm soooo loving them. Down and outs or just the sharers, the practicing perfect before gigs.
There was a really cute and quite clever clip of Bon Iver and Lykke Li doing an acoustic set in California. Just sitting on a monument by a park,it looked so pretty, she used this bike chain for percussion... really cool.
My friends Lupen Crook and the Murderbirds did a few gigs in New York 2 yearS ago and it would be irrelevant to say but the little idiot himself watched them busk in central park. I was so disappointed that they didnt say hello!! They did however talk to seasick steve recently about the benefit of wearing clogs whilst busking, which made me laugh!
Yeah buskers are my new thing, my little girl is forever standing patiently watching a violinist around the town and I'm dipping in for change. And I actually wonder if The Peruvian Pan Pipe Players are really from Peru?... I dont think they arrrrrrre!
I recently got an accordian for Christmas and although I cant play its so beautiful I'm just staring it and hiding it from Lupens, fagin fingers! Central Park would cry in shame at my playing talent, my walls can't wince so I'm good here.
Acoustic sets are always more personal, (that Orchestra is going to be AWESOME!)when its stripped back like that I think the artist gets kudos for allowing to be heard with such vulnerability.

I'm sure whomever is blessed with those tickets of yours will be ever so grateful angel and you will see, it will be paid forward to you for doing such a kind deed. I should have done that a couple of years back with a The Little Death NYC performance ticket I had, which I couldn't go to, but I didn't have time to send the ticket to anyone when I realized I wouldn't be going. My ticket wasn't electronic, it had been snail mailed to me from concert venue.
