sitting here working on music in the office of the house i'm renting in l.a and also baffled that the republicans were able to elect a former nude model as senator from massachusets. yup, here's the new junior republican senator from massachusets:

you'll notice that he's naked, republican family values and whatnot.
in other news i'm sitting here while the monsoon (if they call it that here in l.a) is blowing outside. it's the middle of the day and it's dark in runyon canyon (where i'm living) and earlier it was hailing and thunderstorming (yes, 'thunderstorming' is a word, i just decided). but i have a fire in the fireplace and lou reed's 'transformer' on the stereo for inspiration. i was just working on an acoustic version of 'when it's cold i'd like to die' (in no way related to the fact that it is, by los angeles standards, cold).
in theory i'll be able to figure out how to record a little video of me sitting at my desk working on it. but in theory there shouldn't be a former nude model as the current junior republican senator from massachusets. ah, democrats, unmatched in their ability to viciously grab defeat from the jaws of victory.
i can send some pictures of my little work area. that i can do (until i figure out how to send cheap little videos). to state the blindingly obvious: here's my guitar on a desk...

again with stating the obvious: here's l.a in the rain:

and here's my travelling studio. nothing says 'acoustic' like pro-tools on a laptop...

ok. back to work in rainy l.a. later i might go hang out with phillip marlowe by an aqueduct.

Dearest Moby,
I love your song when it's cold I'd like to die! I believe I wrote of how much I loved that song while blogging on here. I said that it was my favorite because it has a beautiful concept of not being afraid of death. Another song of yours that I have found deeper meaning in is extreme ways. I love how you say I threw out everything new again, everything that I owned. My favorite part of the song though is when you repeat over and over again how everything fell apart just like it always does. I do not know why but that part puts a smile on my face. You would think that it would make me feel some form of dismay but knowing that everything always falls apart is actually comforting.
If rained in Phoenix, AZ a lot too. I found it blissful. I love the energy of storms. They always seem to give me a boost of creativity. I was probably writing a poem or jotting down in my own journal as you worked on the song that I love. my favorite photo by the way was of the guitar. I love the blue backround from outside. The rain does seem to change everthing... the light of day becoming a dimly lit hue that cloaks the world, perhaps creating a new dimension of existance as it does so...
Always dreaming,
Cael
p.s. I am an independent who use to belong to the democratic party. I could never see the democrats or republicans comepletely controlling this country. both parties can be so out of it sometimes... we need both to keep the other in check. That is how this country was founded. Both sides say hypocritical things sometimes. It is up to us as a people to decide individually what we will believe.
In LA? play a show and play Animal Rights!
Hey Moby.
I really liked Animal Rights. I can't be the only one. But when you toured for it, you only played terrible festival shows in Boston where I lived at the time, and I really just wanted to see the show in a club somewhere dark and more personal, instead of at noon with 20,000 people who weren't listening because they were there for some Limp Bizkit clone or some such nonsense.
Anyways, I live in LA now, and you're in town, wouldn't it be fun to play a night at the echo or something and just play some post-punk stuff and Joy Division covers?
It would be fun to see at the very least.
In Random side notes:
Say hello to Kelly for me, I used to know her when she was at Charlie's in Boston long ago.
irrelevant to this post - but important
Mobs, if you actually read this post, contact me for a video i need to send you... I would have sent you the youtube link, but it's no longer there - thankfully i downloaded it.

Its simple really
The nude model won in Massachusets despite the fact that there's only 11% registered Republican voters for one reason alone: to protect the universal health care in the state.
Some citiznes in Massachusets would actually lose their health coverage under the Democrats (if thats what you want to call them) Health Care plan. Over half of the Brown voters said the health care bill didnt go far enough.
http://scienceblogs.com/mikethemadbiologist/2010/01/obamabrown_supporter...
And here the Democrats are talking about gutting it more. I'm a registered Democrat (though I will always vote for the best candidate) solely for this reason--they need all the help they can get.
I didn't expect this..
I didn't expect to come here and laugh, but seeing that about the nude senator, well, that was a good one (no matter what one's politics.) I needed to laugh today, thank you.
I'll be back. The creative process is always interesting.
Fare well, (my lovely?)
Liz

I would like to wish you Happy New Year, even if too late and may your new record be one that you will enjoy particularly, like the current one.
Let me take you ... back in time ... not so back as to meet Scorpions in "Holiday" :-D
I was one of the lucky ones that attended your first acoustic show in London, which, by the way, was astonishing! I intended to write to you since then because you mentioned that if anyone would like to have a book with sketches that you make could just ask for one. And that's what I'm doing :-)
See, I'm a graphic designer and I would very much appreciate it if I could these sometime. Though you said it's easy and quick for you, Joan Miro, a famous Spanish painter, said that he had to grow old to learn to draw like a child ;-) And that's the beauty of it!!!
I trust we'll speak again soon, no matter what the result and till then be well. Thank you in advance for your time and kind answer.
Fascinating...
You've started presenting such a fascinating process here. So it's not a dream to see/know how you make your music. We're literally grateful to be able to follow the process, Moby.
But in truth, I only have quite vague idea of come out music when it's said acoustic, orchestral forms, etc. Sound just exciting.
Happy struggling work to you, then. I hope you know/feel all your music appreciators are walking along with you.
Moby.
Just wanted to add this song here if you don't mind.

Be careful in the stairs: just broke two of my ribs and hit my hips and my shoulder when I fell down the stairs. I used to be so careful because I read a book of someone who had fell down the stairs and now is sitting in the wheelchair (for 10 years). What she describes is terrible. It was careless of me.
Weatherman Moby!
It is so nice that you will be sharing with us that read your blog the moments that you create. Wonderful. Thanks!!
So you brought weather to the drought. I guess it is just what they needed. Is it by the way?
Just happened to read in the newspaper that it is pouring rain in the north of L.A. and that it has been three years of drought there. You must have some very good connections with the weathergods.
Oh God hope you get something out of this my writing. Going towards spring. Yahoo.
Here is a nice (Ithink) video of STORM AND RAIN...
I always liked the rain.

If you need inspiration - remember(?) what I told you - on your inner levels you can CONNECT with anyone you love to. You know - just close your eyes. I'm not kidding. You'll see... (You once gave me inspiration - I'll humbly help you if I can). TESTING TESTING TESTING??
Remember(?) what I told you that happens when someone reads my letters...
Take care. Yours Cariño
I didn't know he used to be a
I didn't know he used to be a nude modelist lol.
A most interesting project
I can´t wait to hear the result of this new record!
It sounds like it´s going to be pretty different from what Moby has recorded so far.
And I like the idea of involving his fans into the process of creating it. The starting point is definately invigorating: Moby locked up in a house in L.A. with a pot, a Mac and a guitar, accompanied by the crackling sounds from the fireplace and Lou Reed singing: "Oh, baby, you´re so vicious".
Such a breathtaking area *you* are living in my love
Wow, I so love your yard. To be able to look out at that beautiful forest of trees.....tis so heavenly..... It makes me think of why I love Colorado so much. When I lived in Cherry Creek I had gorgeous trees adorning my apartment. Actually, my apartment back yard was part of the Cherry Creek Biking Nature Trail. Absolutely beautiful!!! And although your trees are different that many that are in Colorado, it still makes me think of my Colorado, because trees are so amazing. They really speak to me and I'm sure to *you* and everyone. Don't they? Many of them have lived so many years and have so much history and live and thrive looking beautiful and being safe havens and homes for many animals, birds, bugs and provide us with shade and beautiful naturistic eye candy. I so love trees. So mystical and magical. Smiles. I'm in love with your view. So since I'm in love with your home view and more specifically with *You*, when do I move in with *you*? Winks* Sighs.......
I so wish *you* could come and stay with Lil Brayden and I at our home for some time this year my love. Since *you* have down time. We would so love that!!!!
I'm also hoping *you* can go to my sister's wedding in April. Utah isn't far from Cali at all. Hints*
I'm up late this morning, due to not feeling well and going to bed late, thus I'm needing to get my arse off of the computer to get ready for work.
Enjoy your day my amazing darling!!!!
I Love *You* With All My Heart,
Your Eternal Love Rachelle, Lil Brayden & Pets

please e-mail back if you're interested.
thank you
Fantastically inspiring
I've been listening to you for a few years now, more closely during that time, then all of the time I've known about your music. I'm looking forward to the release of the next CD, but what is as equally exciting is following your documentation of development. This is a fantastic way of bringing your fans into the creative process. I am already jealous of you being able to do this...lol... (especially since I have to be in the office in 45 mins and I am still in my pjs in the studio)!
You mentioned your bedroom studio in your previous post. I've read and seen pictures of it online, as well as in articles in Wired and Mix Magazine (March 2005). I am in no way a "Felix Unger" type, but I thrive in working in an organized space, just like your studio at home. I often get comments about how my studio is "so neat and organized". How do you feel your "new studio space" will influence the greatness we will hear in the future.
Again, Moby, thanks for sharing the journey of development this time around, I'll be back, repeatedly. Loving the pics already. I'd like permission to use two of the three above in future blogposts for my podcast, The Sunday Soundtrack. Please let me know at your convenience.
