the hubble space telescope was recently given a fix-up
music and politics aside... the hubble space telescope was recently given a fix-up (that's a technical term, sorry if it's kind of high-brow). i mean, the hubble's always generated images that were amazing. and now post fix-up they're even extra amazing in terms of clarity and depth. here's an image that they released today.

this is kind of low-res, but the hi-res version is amazing, especially when looking at the tiny galaxies scattered throughout the image. ok, not 'tiny galaxies'. rather 'galaxies that look tiny in the image'. i'm sure the galaxies are gigantic. are there any little galaxies? i'm assuming not.
ok, that was todays amazing nerd alert.
thanks,
moby
Happy Birthday!!!

The bright clusters and nebulae of planet Earth's night sky are often named for flowers or insects, and NGC 6302 is no exception. With an estimated surface temperature of about 250,000 degrees C, the central star of this particular planetary nebula is exceptionally hot though -- shining brightly in ultraviolet light but hidden from direct view by a dense torus of dust. Above does the newly upgraded Hubble Space Telescope record a dramatically detailed close-up of the dying star’s nebula. Cutting across a bright cavity of ionized gas, the dust torus surrounding the central star is in the upper right corner of this view, nearly edge-on to the line-of-sight. Molecular hydrogen has recently been detected in this hot star's dusty cosmic shroud. NGC 6302 lies about 4,000 light-years away in the arachnologically correct constellation Scorpius. That is truly amazing. I was reading about this earlier, and I thought of you and your random space updates, haha.
I hope you're enjoying Paris, and Happy [early] Birthday. Wishing you a great day.
PS: How great is the whole Joe Wilson thing? His democratic opponent has raised over half a million dollars now from angry Obama supporters now. Hi-larious.
a day before tomorrow
Well, your curiosity stimulate us, but you might forget it's your birthday tomorrow as you look so, so busy both mentally and physically.
I'd like to say to you simply, "A Happy Birthday to you ".
And many thanks to you, keeping providing your views to share with us. I've learned a lot here (since 2005). I'd never experienced to post something to any other places before. Your music and being able to bring a say here whenever we want is wonderful.
Please have a happy day tomorrow and wish you good live tour in the US.
Help
Hi Moby, I hope you read this... Or someone does.I am 14, I bought tickets today to see you play in montreal, I have listened to you since I was a baby, I was so exited that I wanted to see what the theater would be like. But in my extensive research... I found that that gig is in quebec city. I can not go that far by car because my dad does not have that much for gas. Also the tickets are unrefundable. What should I do? Can you help. I really want to see you play. my email is crazycalemail@gmail.com
When it's cold...
Those are some awesome pics moby. When I was little I was obsessed with space. I wanted to be an astronaut of course more than anything. I watch the History channel show The Universe whenever I can. In any case I just wanted to say happy early Birthday Moby!!! and, ever since I was thirteen my fav. song of all time was Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls; I loved it so much for the song's lyrics, but now your song When it's cold I'd like to die has replaced it as number 1.
It is so beautiful when you say, " I don't want to swim forever, I don't want to fight the tide, when it's cold I'd like to die." Not being afraid of death is such a wonderful thing, and I wouldn't want to live forever either with the way the world is. Thank you for sharing your music with us as always.
Your friend forever,
Cael
