last night i was at a party in midtown and before the rain became too intense we were all outside staring up at the empire state building.

nice fact: apparently the empire state building was once a docking station for zeppelins, the hindenburg, even. james cameron should make 'hindenburg' the movie. kind of like titanic, but no survivors, not even jewelry.

while standing in the foothills of the empire state building last night i took a picture while a little cloud was hovering over the transmission tower. i've seen a lot of very tall buildings in my life, but really nothing can compare to the empire state building in terms of sheer awe inspiring impressiveness.

Empire State Cloud

i also like this picture from last night as it looks as if it could've been taken in 1945. glad to see my minor in photography isn't going completely to waste. unlike my major in philosophy. i believe i left that on the bathroom floor of motor city in 1997.

Nice shot

Loving the photo

The Rain Falls

good shot of the embire state building the rain falls and the sky shudders is a realy awesome piece and the move ep kicks ass to. one of the songs you did for southland tales titled "cinograph" was realy good to with a similer feel. on one of your i love to move in here singles theres a song called all that i need is to be loved (DUB) i can't find the single anywhere to order or to download is there anyway i could the mp3? your remixes of that song were so good. and id love to have the dub version.

Luminous

The hazy effect of the cloud at the top comes well with the luminous quality of the lights on the building. It feels like a chandelier hanging from the sky. Great capture.

I always find myself looking up, when I come across this building.

Mara,

Ahhhh, That Explains It

Knew you were an excellent photographer. Didn't know you'd studied it. I really enjoy your photos.

We stayed down the street from the Empire State Building when I was there in October but we never went to the top....or Central Park...or the Statue of Liberty....

Memo to my own head: Never plan on just four days in NYC. :P

I was listening to "The Rain Falls and The Sky Shudders" yesterday (raining off and on here) and was wishing it was about a half an hour longer. Hoping for that same feel in the new CD. I love songs like that.

Cool photo

cool photo. Reminds me of Ghostbusters, or a J.J. Abrams movie :)

existentialism is a practical joke

Nice photograph. And what was that about your major in philosophy?

Anyway, I just discovered that you can make comments on your website in addition to doing so on MySpace, so I caught up with all your journal entries in the last couple of hours that I was behind on reading here, starting with your post on "Family Guy". I'm hoping you'll read this and maybe even reply, being the last post you made and being on your website, as I want to paste my reaction to the "Family Guy" post, as it concerns an issue about you that's left me perplexed for a couple of years now, considering your love of shows like "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons", so here it is (reply if you can):

Hey Moby, I used to be a regular visitor to your site here years ago, well before MySpace ever existed, to read your journal and comment on the boards, but once I found you on MySpace, with the ability to comment on what you write about (which you apparently added here at some point, as well- even with the ability to title one's comments!) I stopped coming here until just now clicking the link you posted on MySpace to your site here to download your new single for free, and after returning here to do so after all this time I came to this section to double-check that the two journals you keep on MySpace and here are identical, and I found this forum now had the ability to let you make comments. I can't know, but perhaps you may pay a little more attention to comments made here. But I'm several entries behind, just clicking the link in an older one on MySpace announcing the new album and free single to bring me here for it.

Anyway I agree with you- "Family Guy" is a classic. Though I must say it surprises me greatly that someone like you doesn't watch the deliciously caustic and sometimes brilliant "South Park". It's still going strong after all these years (though hasn't racked up the mammoth amount of years "The Simpsons" has been on the air). Nevertheless, with your sense and sensibilities I would think you'd enjoy it immensely- if you think "Family Guy" gets away with stuff, it doesn't hold a candle to the amazing things South Park has done. And no one is safe- from George Clooney to Radiohead to Moses and the Devil! You should really start watching or recording it to watch later if you're not already doing so (it airs Wednesdays at 10PM, and reruns several times during the week on Comedy Central- plus in most markets it airs a couple of back-to-back episodes every night on a local station, which is perfect for you if you've never caught it so far in the time it's been on- they'd all be like new episodes to you). I never understood why you never mentioned watching it- I can't imagine you'd be too much of a prude- or couldn't take the jokes aimed at overly chaste and pretentious leftist Hollywood types. They go after austere conservatives with equal veracity. Anyway, maybe now I"M the one giving too much information with this hard sell, I just think the show's comedy has often been pure genius, and am aghast that you've never mentioned watching it.

Anyway, sorry to hear about your ankle; i hope it heals soon.

Stay cool/Be strong,

Alexander
