caveat: politics.
caveat: politics.
the house and the senate have been drafting and debating a stimulus bill for a while now. it passed the house (twice) without a single republican vote. and it passed the senate with 3 republican votes. republicans are claiming that they oppose the bill because they oppose government spending.
er, uh, i mean, i might not be the brightest guy on the planet, but didn't 8 years of gw bush and republican rule create the biggest federal government and the biggest federal deficit in the history of the country? i would appreciate the republican position if they genuinely believed in small government, but when they were in power they spent and spent and spent and ended up creating, as i said, the biggest federal government and the biggest federal deficit in history.
it's hard to take republicans seriously when they talk about fiscal responsibility, as when they were in power they spent taxpayer money like a drunk diplomat in a strip club. it's a shame, as the republicans are running the risk of being seen as needlessly partisan at a time when the president seems to be earnestly seeking bi-partisan solutions, and when the country is in dire need of economic stimulus. and some of the things that the republicans wanted included in the stimulus package, such as reduced dividend taxes and repealing the estate tax, almost exclusively benefit the wealthy. and maybe it's irrelevant, but haven't we spent well over a trillion dollars in iraq? so the republicans are saying that a trillion dollars can be happily spent in iraq but not in the united states?
i honestly hope that the republicans can figure out a way to provide a rational counterpart to the democratic majority, and that they don't continue exercising knee-jerk and irrational partisanship.

Neo Cons Suck
The Neo Cons are pissed!
They wanted us to remain slaves to the system and they are panicking. And yes, they are acting like spoiled children. The lack of votes is just "Sour Grapes" on their part
War sucks, believe me I've been there.
Peace Out!
well...
you're obviously not making a case for the stimulus plan here. but if you were, you would have to explain how adding to our deficit with a package including funds of no less than $140,000,000 for climate modeling and $600,000,000 for an energy efficient motor fleet for the federal government is justified.
i'm just a regular american, but i have a hard time imagining a government can spend themselves out of debt.
Oh and you so know how when you get all worked up with politics
how incredibly sexy you are, purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs...........

Agenda
I think the agenda underlying the republican party's actions (whether or not participating republicans have mind to know what they do) is:
- Increase recession
- Keep sending country to war
Why anyone would pursue this agenda is a topic for another discussion.
Then, the agenda (which I do not believe belongs to the rebublican party officially, but which clearly has more influence on the republican party) will disagree with Obama's policy (domestic spending) because it:
- Reduces recession
- Does not send the country to war
In summary: Obama's policy is good for America in that it strengthens her under the constitution. However, perhaps some people with a lot of money (and think more deeply than republicans) do not want a strong constitutional America, and so disagree with Obama. Then they engage others (in action without integrity as mentioned) to counter Obama's policy.

Nobody ever...
Nobody has ever gotten into power and then voluntarily said "Okay, give me less power now." That's why Republicans like former Wisc. GOP Tommy Thompson can be fiscally conservative as state governors but then go to DC and become pro-federal government centrists and why "After 9/11" can nationalize the banks while claiming to be fiscally conservative.
Someday, politicians will have philosophies and voters will care. Until then, people should realize that the debate is not between fiscal liberals & fiscal conservatives at the national level; it's between SOCIAL liberals and SOCIAL conservatives. The question isn't "should we spend money," it's "what should we spend money on?"
Someone should also tell the GOP that tax cuts = government spending in reverse. The government can take money and give it back, or it can let you keep your money in the first place. In either situation, the government is opting to give money (let it stay) with/to a desired recipient. So again, the only question is not "should we spend money," but "on whom should we spend it."
It would be nice if someone would ask "should we spend the money?" and mean it.

Obama
Yeah spoken like a politician ! talking about past mistakes is fair enough but Obama has just sent more troops out, ok its not as many as they wanted but isnt it still more money down the drain...?
ps loved that last photo :)
A war Bush started. And the
A war Bush started.
And the violence there has increased drastically, and they needed more troops. Disagree or Agree about going in there in the first place, but Obama is just doing his job.
