a very nice summation of 8 years under bush and cheney.

A critique of the video

Interesting video.

I could hear the media's rapid and scattered observations, but... I saw three main underlying themes that I disagree with:

(1) The media is judge.
(2) There is inadequate spending on wars, still.
(3) The most important thing is hope.

I disagree entirely on the first two points, and mostly on the third.

1. The media is not judge. While it can be good to name evil, the corporate owned media is not suitable to engage in this activity, and especially on this topic. To go further than pointing out evil is judgement. And the media is not judge.

2. There is too much spending on wars, still. I can see the point, but why does the video still criticise the fact that Bin Laden has not been captured? George Bush sought to spend money on war. He made up excuses for war. It is so obvious. So why an underlying message and tone of voice that could encourage American people to think, "We should have got Bin Landen" (and perhaps even contemplate alternative military spending)? I here recall my first point about the inappropriateness of the media to even name evil, let alone to go the next step of judgement.

3. Yes, hope is important, but it is certainly not "The one thing that might yet suffice". It raises the important question of "Hope in what (or whom)?" And what about faith and charity (and consider charity / unconditional love in contrast with the second point about war)? What about the institutions that hold leadership accountable (including the constitution)? As thankfully many Jewish people well know, what matters is not so much about who is voted into power (as important as that is), as it is about holding whoever is in power accountable. I think the commentator's final stark reference to hope is an allusion to Barack Obama. However, as much as I like Barack Obama, I believe the government cannot and should not rest on the shoulders of one man (unless it is the Lord Jesus Christ). And, a hope that rests on the shoulders of one man is a fragile hope (unless it is the Lord Jesus Christ). The Lord Jesus Christ was bodily raised from the dead after being crucified and buried.

In summary:
(1) The media is not judge.
(2) There is too much spending on wars, still (to understate the obvious).
(3) Yes, hope is important, but it is certainly not "The one thing that might suffice."

Thank you for the link to this video

Seriously, it's not like they didn't know.

Disco Lies

Hello Moby:

I have been a fan for quite some time; I really enjoy your music and the message. I very much respect that you support the Humane Society, and that you are a vegetarian. I just popped by the website and watched 'Disco Lies'; the images will haunt me for quite some time. I realize the reason that you use these images in your work, and respect you for it. I need to say, though, that Disco Lies will forever have a new meaning for me, and that I believe the images of the chicken slaughterhouse will be invoked each time I hear it.

I wish you peace,

Del

I Love *You* Mo!!!!
