oh, occasionally i hear people saying, 'why not criticize democrats?'
oh, occasionally i hear people saying, 'why not criticize democrats?' my answer: because i'm a blind ideologue unwilling to look at my own or others failings unless they disagree with me. ok, that's not my answer. my answer is that the democrats haven't given me much to criticize as of late.
of course blagojojothedancingmonkeyvich is a disaster. a train wreck. a self-serving pol of the most insane degree. he should retire/resign/be run out of town on a rail. and spitzer was an entitled, arrogant dick-for-brains (literally).
my feeling is simply that at present the democrats are a bit better than the republicans. after a few years the republicans might be a bit better than the democrats (if they can focus on core issues, and not stem-cells and walls between the u.s and mexico and terri schiavo and creationism and etc).
give me some good, moderate, sane, informed republicans and i'll happily support them. give me some bad, loony, corrupt democrats and i'll happily criticize them. i'm only partisan insofar as the democrats have been better than the republicans as of late. the democrats seem sane, the republicans seem loony. the democrats seem moderate, the republicans seem extremist. i like centrism and moderation, compromise and collaboration, even between people who virulently disagree with each other. i'm glad to see the back of bush and his extremist republicans, not because they were 'republicans', but because they were truly awful, inept, self-serving, and corrupt. and i'd love to see a resurgence of smart, informed, moderate republicanism, just as the last 8 years has given us a resurgence of smart, informed, moderate democrats. when one party holds party there's almost inevitably corruption. i hope that the republicans are able to help the democratic majority find a centrist, moderate, and balanced place from which to govern. and i hope that the democrats aren't too corrupted by their control of just about everything, for we all know that political power can shift in an instant, and todays majority is tomorrows ineffectually screeching from the sidelines minority. luckily the current crop of democrats seem more motivated by reason and moderation than they do by rabid ideology. let's hope it stays that way, and let's hope that the moderate republicans can meet the moderate democrats in the middle in order to actually help the country and the world through good governance.
sorry to be dull and moderate, but well, i guess i'm dull and moderate.

IN RESPONSE TO: “Oh, occasionally I hear people saying: why not criticize democrats?”
Dear Moby,
I agree with you regarding Dem’s vs. Rep’s. The democrats haven’t given much to criticize lately. I just hope that this incoming administration is aware that people’s minds DO change in an instant and it doesn’t matter which political party we’re speaking of at any given moment.
I think the real point is: that we’re not concerned with Democrats vs. Republicans, but we are concerned which politicians (on either side) are for the majority of the country that struggles to just make a decent living from day to day and which ones are for the minority of the country making a more than adequate living, mostly at the expense of the majority.
I know this is a capitalist country and people tie that label to democracy. In the same vein, people equate socialism to communism, so the “rah, rahs” are always screaming that it’s “Un-American” to question how things are being run by the elite at our expense. This is a manipulation to keep people from reacting to the on-going corruption by the powerful. It’s the same manipulation when one is called a snitch or a tattletale when they “out” someone for doing something wrong. It was invented by the corrupt to keep the decent people from stopping them being corrupt. Unfortunately, it’s also been perpetuated by decent people who buy into it because they’re afraid to be singled out and humiliated by…oh…everyone for “snitching”. If we are to have the right to expect more honesty from our politicians, we also need to expect to pay the price for living honestly ourselves. If someone ever calls me a tattletale or a snitch, I’ll tell them “thank you”!
I think that Democracy is ALWAYS great since rule by the majority is the best idea that came along, but if capitalism begins to turn to feudalism, then things are getting too lopsided and it’s always in the favor of the few with the most money. Socialist programs had to be implemented during the last depression and will surely have to be reestablished in this one (make no mistake about it, whether the news says so or not, we’re already IN a depression).
I HOPE that the democrats stay with the notion that they are elected to office TO SERVE THE PEOPLE and not themselves. This is what the republicans have completely forgotten and they have spent the last several decades building on it. If ever the republicans come to their senses and regain the attitude that they are not in office to build bigger and bigger wealth for themselves, but to see to it that their people (ALL of them in this country) should have an equal share in the wealthiest country in the world, then they’ll begin to regain my attention and respect. Until such time, they ARE selfish and corrupt in my book and not deserving of my respect OR my vote. However, if the democrats in office don’t do the right thing by us, THEY won’t have my respect for very long either.
If neither side of our two-party-system politicians can embrace honesty, intelligence, common sense and compassion, then we may be doomed as a country. Unlike ancient societies, modern societies don’t last longer than about 500 years. The yin and yang of it is that this can be a good or a bad thing depending on whether the society is treating its people (ALL its people) well, or not. If our politicians fail to read the writing on the wall, that their people are fast losing faith in their ability to govern properly, this society will eventually go the way of all the societies before it. That would be a sad thing indeed given the fact that we have an incredible amount of knowledge accumulated and have made so many strides during our existence.
I don’t at all feel that you are dull - and moderate is not a bad thing either. You are sane, compassionate and concerned about our leaders regarding their common sense and commitment to doing the right thing for their people and that’s a really good thing! We’ve tried either end of the scale by flip flopping from one administration’s politics to the next and I think it’s time that a little moderate behavior is in order. It takes more time, thought and patience, but I think the outcome will end up being better in the long run. It’s time to get the power out of the hands of big business, oil concerns and money mongers and get it into the hands of the people in this country who simply want to live a good life. However, with that being said, we the people need to take more of a conscious participation in how things are being run and not blindly hand over the responsibility to anyone we elect. Promises don’t make good politicians. Actions will tell you where their allegiances lie.
Thank you, Moby, for your thoughts on the subject. You may be moderate (and that’s a good thing), but you are certainly NOT dull.
Your writing never ceases to me to be more impeccable......
every time I read your journals Sweetheart.
You totally make sense and you are not dull, *you* shine darling. You have a good head on your shoulders and some people are intimidated by such and that is why they whine. I love your approach and ways of thinking in regards to politics. I was never very interested in politics until you came into my life. You have shed the light on so many subjects for me and you write in a simple and easy/reader friendly way. Politics the Moby was is far easier to understand and I actually enjoy discussing politics because of such, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for that Richard!!!!
I Love *You*,
Your Rachelle
