now that we have obama as president elect and now that the democrats have huge majorities

now that we have obama as president elect and now that the democrats have huge majorities in the house and senate and governorships and local legislatures, well, i guess i don't really need to write about politics so much anymore?

i mean, there are still pressing issues, and i'll write about them, but the election is done, and it ended well.

so i guess i can shut up and sing, as some people have requested. although there are some problems with 'shut up and sing'.

problem 1 is that it's kind of technically impossible to 'shut up' and 'sing' at the same time. sort of like saying 'stop and dance'. if i shut up i can't sing. and if i sing i'm not really shutting up. sort of oxymoronic.

the other problem is that i rarely sing. in fact on 'last night' i only sort of sing on 'alice' and sort of talk on 'hyenas'. but you'll see, now that my political obsession is waning a bit i'll start writing about deeply mundane things like mud covered squirrels and wallets that disinfect money and the planned obsolescence of lightbulbs.

you'll see, soon you'll be longing for the days when i wrote obsessively about politics. maybe you'll start sending me emails, 'you know, it's nice that you're so interested in coin collecting, and that it inspires you to write, but do you think that maybe you could write about politics every now and then?'

i just got back from seeing the bad brains. i love the bad brains. but boy oh boy was this an odd show. h.r was, uh, interesting. when i saw the bad brains in 1982 h.r was a frenzied lunatic, running around the stage, screaming at the top of his lungs, dreadlocks flying, doing back flips off of the drum set. and now he wears a white suit and smiles at the audience and sort of gently sing-speaks some of the song lyrics. all the while the bad brains (darryl, dr no, earl) are making this huge fantastic punk rock sound/noise. the bad brains really were the best hardcore band ever. and now they're still amazing, but the lead singer, h.r, is still sort of in the deep end. ok, i need sleep.

Keep writing, till dumb animal becomes smart

Its funny, everytime i come to your blog(should i say journal?) which i adore I think to myself "did moby say he wasn't going to write about politics"? Looking back I havent really read anywhere where you said you was not going to write about politics anymore. LOL! I secretly am addicted to reading your journal writings on politics it gets me to thinking and researching. So i am saying don't stop writing about politics but i also enjoy your other writings that you wrote back in 2006 for example

Off topic.

I know this is fairly off topic, but why haven't you ever considered coming to play a show in Calgary, Alberta? You really should think about it...

There`s nowt wrong with your political rants

It is quite an exciting time after all, and its great to have a democrat such as Obama win the election, even though the poor guy will have hell of a mess to sort out and as `heyyyeahh` aptly puts it, it wont happen overnight.

We are excited about it in the u.k as what happens in America often effects us here and indeed the rest of the world.

The people I talk to are excited about it no matter what their profession is.
Just because your a musician doesnt mean you are not allowed to care about the world.
You carry on mate

what i'd like to be able to read about next in your journal

i'd like it if you could give us an intricate description of some things that happen to you in a dream. I like dreams.

descriptions of the various things that happen to you while you are awake tend to be intriguing too. even the mundane things. you're very good at making fun reading out of what might normally be mundane.

and I'm curious to know what you are planning on getting up to over the next 6 months.

plus i've been wondering, since obama became the president elect, what he is planning on doing about all those many people that the bush administration had deliberately planted in various government departments to serve the interests of the fossil fuel industry.

you know how i mentioned in another comment here that "american government" had previously become synonymous for me (and so many other people around the world) with greed and corruption, well it occured to me to realise that the level of corruption that the u.s government and government departments has been riddled with is not likely to completely vanish just because you have obama as president elect and the democrats have huge majorities in the house and senate and governorships and local legislatures. what about all those people working for the cia and the fbi who have willingly helped to give those departments and the u.s government an international reputation for being corrupt? does obama get to flush out those government departments and select some different people (known to be more humane) to take over the intelligence work for his new administration? I really wonder about that. i heard on the news about how obama is soon to be briefed by the cia for the first time, and i set about to wonder right away how he could trust the current staff of the cia after they have been serving the bush administration for so long?

do you wonder about that kind of thing?

anyway, i'm keen to be kept up to date with interesting pieces of news about obama and whatever else you might wish to share about politics.....

.... or about what kinds of dogs you met most recently on the dog run in central park, or maybe what kind of food you have in your fridge at the moment.

I'd also be interested to know about whether you ever see snakes in new york and what you do if you suddenly notice that you have a spider crawling over the top of your head.

I've read articles where

I've read articles where Moby says that he's not good at singing... What?! (It sounds good to me!) Well, okay. I don't know anything much about music (like staying in tune, hitting notes, etc.) - but I love it when you sing! Please sing more and keep singing, Moby! I look forward to hearing more of your work in the future.

Now begins the work

Elated & Sad . . .

Elated that Obama won. Sad because Prop 8 passed in California, plus the props in Arizona and Florida passed as well, saying marriage is between a man and a woman. My partner and i are depressed over this as we will be moving back to California next year.

Civil Rights are civil rights. African Americans won on November 4th, but the LGBTQ community lost. The African Americans in California who voted for Obama are the group that voted to pass Prop 8. So sad and boggles my mind.

"Be patient towards all that is unsolved in your heart and dreams, try to love the questions themselves."

- Rainer Maria Rilke

prop. 8 ban in California

prop. 8 ban in California has kind of ruined my mood, but I know sooner or later we'll eventually get equality for everyone. It's just going to take some time. At least people are protesting and raising their voices. I'm pretty proud of them, I have to say.

I love your political rants btw. I probably read your journal way too much. :] I'm not sure about mud covered squirrels though.

target markets

how about re-mixing some vintage tunes which neophyte hipsters and musicologists may not be aware of?

I would be impressed if you re-mixed Pulp's "death II" and increased to 140bpm.

the possibilities are endless with xymox's "stranger".

how about the obscure and underground "new york, new york" by mcl, voyou's "Houseman/Germany calling" or CCCP's "american soviets"?

remember the freestyle group "the voice in fashion" or
information society"?

think about the target markets. the people who are actually familiar with these bands are probably burnt-out investment bankers today struggling with million dollar mortgages somewhere in the upper-east side and hearing these vintage tracks would lift their spirits.

newbies who aren't familiar with these groups would likely buy/download it free by the bulk since their favorite groups/djs are a derivative from the early predecessors.

Sounds good.

Your passion is what counts. This obama-matter is a quantum leap for the whole mankind. With you.

your site, your rules

I come here to read what makes you tick. So rant away, my frient, rant away! ;)
