Its 2 am in nyc and the streets are filled with people.
Everyones dancing and laughing and hugging each other.
Its like mardi gras meets new years eve meets graduation meets the moon landing.

Barack obama is president elect of the united states.
He won, and he won with a very large majority.
I'm not gloating, I'm just saying that his victory is a landslide.

To democrats: thank you. You worked incredibly hard and gave selflessly and waited in long lines to vote. Thank you.

You've given us a better future than we had yesterday.
To republicans: you fought hard but you lost. Again, I'm not gloating, but I hope that you can look at the republican party and the many years of operating from a place of stoking the fires of fear and divisiveness and figure out how to move forward as a 21st century party. Obama has pledged to work for all americans. I hope that you can put aside your cynicism and bitterness and give him the chance that he's earned. If you care about your country and your future you'll support obama as president elect and do what you can to help him pass bipartisan legislation that will help to get our country back on track.

To the rest of the world: thank you. Obama is first and foremost president elect of the united states, but he's also a citizen of the world, and we thank you for supporting him and for not giving up on america. We as a country seem to have regained our sanity.
We've put aside fear and cynicism and deceit and we've embraced hope and optimism and progress.
America is an amazing country, capable of amazing change.
40 years ago blacks and whites couldn't share the same drinking fountain in many parts of america.
Now we have an african-american president elect and a democratic majority in the house and senate to help get the country moving in the right direction.
We all deserve a rest now for a little bit.
I'm still in a state of happy shock. We won. We won in a landslide. We have a smart, capable, inspiring african-american president.
Thank you.
Moby

Our future

Did any of you see the video put out that had the cyclist closing in on the finish line, then slacked off to raise his hands in victory, only to wipe out, and the next guy behind him cruised to the finish instead? A viral video was circulating before the close of the election used this as an example to show that we had to 'leave everything on the road' to win this election. I was very fortunate to be selected to be an Obama Fellow which was essentially the ground team that helped build support, but had to drop out since I had just started my own business. Instead, I volunteered as many hours as I could at the Oregon Obama office whenever possible. The people there were so nice, and so heart-warming and inspirational, it really brought home what Obama and he's been able to accomplish with the American psyche. He's inspired us. He's made us believe again... in ourselves. As nation, we are very capable of accomplishing so many things when we set our minds to it. Unfortunately, the last eight years has meant us being fed a boat load of crap and leading us to doubt ourselves.

From the 80-year-old lady who came in to feebly type in voter registration data (even though she was a little intimidated by the computer system!) to the newly-registered voter who wanted to bring in her vallot directly to the Obama headquarters to drop it off and the whole office cheered... America has been rocked to its core and we finally have a leader who can guide us in the right directions to make a difference with our neighbors, our street, block, neighborhood, city and country. This is amazing!

It's finally over!

The American election definitely ruined our election in Canada... Regardless of how I feel, it's still wonderful that Obama is your new president. I think we all saw it coming, to be honest..

Now that all the hype is starting to blow over, I honestly don't think that Obama will fully meet the expectations of the American people. Regardless of his future performance as president, I think he will regain a fair amount of sympathy and respect from the international community.

martin.

Good morning America

Congratulations America, now you can definitely drop and get rid of your recent past (and your recent lame presient..) and look at your future with hope and optimism. On my behalf, I'm waiting for the day when we'll be able to say the same here in Italy....it seems that common sense, culture and politeness have been beaten up by ignorance and fascism...and a supposed sense of humour that only the prime minister and his watchdogs can laugh about.
I deeply apologize for the indecent and disgraceful words of berlusconi and his ones, and I say that I can understand all the sense of frustration that you americans have felt since 8 years up to now, because it's the same i've been feeling for 15 years and i'm still living now. hope it will end for us too.

Ah Mobes, I'm pretty happy I

Ah Mobes, I'm pretty happy I got to experience a historical event, but I am still nervous: what about the economy, the gay marriage ban,and Obama's idea to invade Pakistan?

Congratulations from the Finnish people

On behalf of the Finnish people I want to congratulate you American people for your new President - Barack Obama. You are so blessed! And YOU, Moby thanks for everything that you have done for this to come/be true. You got your SOULMATE as your president - and so did I... Thank you thank you thank you thank you for the whole world. God bless America!!!

hope has truly been rekindled

that was such an awesome landslide

obama strikes me as a truly humanitarian, deeply caring kind of a human being and that has inspired me to love him actually. i've never felt that towards any politicians before in my whole life.

I'm not an american but as you say, this makes a big difference not only to americans, but the whole world.

i hadn't been letting myself get my hopes up too high prior to the elections there because of the election fraud that has happened previously and because i've heard that the electronic vote counting system you have there is privately owned. I'd wondered "what if it's owners are strong republican supporters?" and besides, the polls hadn't hinted of quite that big a landslide.

well when the results came through, i really felt it. hope rekindling not long after i had lost virtually every last little shred of hope that this world can pull through, that there will be anything left of it to leave to future generations.

so this big blackened out frozen solid sense of no hope (that world governments could or would possibly do all of what needs to be done to secure a future for this world) has to my amazement melted and there's a feeling instead of fresh warm water flowing in a place that had previously been lifeless. that's a really really good feeling.

it's very very good that he won with such a landslide majority too. it will give him more power as a president to bring about change. an aquaintance of mine who is a democrat was explaining to me about how in order for a government to have power to implement some big changes in a first past the post system, they need to have won with a big majority. if it had have been a close race and he'd only just got in, then with any big changes in policies, there would have been that risk that some of his potential supporters for the next election would swing back to the republican side. with such a big majority win, we can all breath a sigh of relief. i can picture this man remaining president of the usa for quite some time. with that level of support he has plenty of room to make some big differences there in the usa government and it's policies.

it's also amazing to experience such a dramatic shift in my feeling towards the american government at large. while previously "american government" had pretty much become synonymous with greed and corruption, i'm happy to witness the beginning of it's metamorphosis into a government that really does care for it's people and to have be a benevolent influence upon the world.

YA HOO!

Hi Moby,
i love to read your journal but this is my first time that i really felt like commenting. I am a hungarian girl from Serbia, South Europe, currently staying in Brussels, and I hardly follow any political events, but this overwhelmed me.
Not only because he is afro-American but also because hearing his speech i felt like he was talking to everyone, even me who has nothing to do with all of this. All my doubt and cynicism was gone for some moments. I can imagine what this cerebration was like, maybe somewhat similar when we had our revolution in Serbia when we made Miloshevich leave his post in 7th October 2000, and we felt free for the first time in 10years.
Of course this is far bigger, a historical moment for all the wold. I am happy to live and see this moment :)

Disappointed

Obama gives a nice speach about "all Americans" yet he barely lifts a finger over Prop 8 and now discrimination will be written into the Constitution in the state of California...my friends will need to find a way to explain to their children today that they are no longer married. Speaches are nice but actions show one's true character. Here's hoping for better in 2012. Moby - I've always admired your political views but Obama needs to be called out on issues.

Well Done America

Hey look, I quite liked George W Bush, but in a sort of stand up comic "he didn't really say that did he" kinda way. As a president and "leader of the free world" he was a bit of a twat.

I'm English and sat up all night here in england to see the result and watch Obama's acceptance speach. Truly inspiring.

Well done, congratulations. Lets hope we can have some sanity back on our planet.

Mark

Rosa sat so Martin could walk...

Martin walked so Obama could run...
Obama ran so our children could FLY

i think a little gloating is okay

and i know that i won't be able to wipe the smile off my face for at least a week.

*grins*

You made it !

Congratulations !!
'Americans showed good example of democracy', here in France people are saying this sharing your historical joy. Thinking of how energetically Americans, especially young generations, have been supporting Obama till the last moment gives a big hope not only towards the US but to many other countries. Yes, things evolve and Americans have chosen right answer. Thank you.

There it is again that audacity to hope...

"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer."

"It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled. Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been just a collection of individuals or a collection of red states and blue states.

We are, and always will be, the United States of America."

"This is our time, to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can’t, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can."

Political and spiritual differences aside, can anyone help but feel hopeful for this nation's future? Can anyone deny that we are once again living history? What a moment for the American people and for the world!

I hoped for a win for Obama,

I hoped for a win for Obama, but I was so surprised, shocked and ecstatic to see such a landslide win!! I know many people who put in a lot of effort this year. I'm so happy! :-)

Congratulations from Belgium and France!

I tried to keep away from

I tried to keep away from the TV all of yesterday.. because I was scared it would be a close race and I don't deal well with anxiety.. hah. But then someone just randomly told me "Oh, Obama is our new president" and I was like..

... WHAT?!

I couldn't believe it. I was in a state of happy shock too until he came out on stage with his family, and I just lost it. It was so wonderful. What a great time to be an American. What an amazing step in history.. and what a great man to make it.

I'm so happy for our country. It's almost too much to take in sometimes.

We finally won

Does this mean that you will stop ranting about poly-ticks and get back to your music? Or will there be more rants about how the new American president has to clean up the past? Get yourself cleaned up and write/create some music. It is over, it is over. We won.

congratulations!

congratulations to president-elect barack obama and his supporters in the democratic base.

i'll hold off on my objections and criticisms against obama for another day.

you've endured 8 years of misery. this is your moment now, savor it.

Congratulations!

...

:)

...Obama won the election

...Obama won the election and that shows to the world, that the great thing about America is that the people do really have the power to change the vote...and Germany followed the whole night of the election...wanting Obama to win...people around the world did hold on a little longer to the belief that Americans are something special...even when it hit their pockets in Germany, they waited here on this election... And Mr. Moby you are great for doing something you care about(presenting a discussion board on this election)...not knowing how it would go, whether it would make you popular or not...To new good beginnings...! enjoy the celebration..! -J

Congrats

Ahhh, relief, just relief.

Congrats from Germanland.

Can't stop smiling.....

I just want you to know that I stayed inside (Sydney, Australia) ALL day glued to the Television..... the kids went crazy but I wrung my hands, I cried & I even prayed..... my heart went funny at the prospect of each exit poll. I just feel very hopeful & happy to see Barack Obama achieve this feat of faith. I look forward to seeing the US regain the dignity it deserves, if democracy was proven to be a colossal failure we would all fall. Hopefully Barack will ensure the survival of that democratic dream that the rest of the world counts upon America to symbolise.

Sleep tight Moby, you deserve a gloating smile or two xx
