it amazes me what the right wing are coming up with to try to win the election.
rather than run on issues and policy positions, the republicans are running on false smears and slander against obama.
let's discredit some of the smears and slander:
1-that obama is a 'socialist'. really? so he has the backing of the ceo of google and warren buffet and ben bernanke and thousands
of other financial and industry leaders and he's a socialist? no, he's a capitalist.
2-that obama is a muslim. again, nothing against islam, but obama was raised christian, married christian, and has publicly
stated hundreds of times that he's a christian.
3-that obama's middle name is 'hussein'. yup, it's true. but obama joked that he's changing his middle name to 'steve'.
if a political campaign/party lowers itself to making fun of a candidates name that's probably a bad sign for that political campaign/party, in that they have little else to run on.
and did he choose his middle name? did you?
4-that he 'pals around with terrorists'. obama served on a charitable board(started by republicans)with a man who
was part of a domestic terrorist group when obama was EIGHT YEARS OLD. there were many, many people on this
charitable board, the majority of whom are republicans.
5-that obama is 'foreign born'. nope. to quote factcheck.org: "FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate. We conclude that it meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship. Claims that the document lacks a raised seal or a signature are false. We have posted high-resolution photographs of the document as "supporting documents" to this article. Our conclusion: Obama was born in the U.S.A. just as he has always said."
so what else does the gop have? nothing. john mccain voted with gw bush 90% of the time and has said publicly about himself that 'knowledge of the economy isn't my strong suit'.
if republicans want to win why don't they run a campaign on issues instead of false slander? i hope that obama wins for many reasons.
i believe that he'll be a principled and sensible and competent chief executive of the united states. but i also hope that he wins
because it would prove to the republicans that running a campaign based on slander and smears and lies no longer works.
the more negative the republicans go, the higher obama's poll numbers grow.
obama has run a respectful and issue-oriented campaign, and that's why he's ahead in the polls. people are tired of
lies and slander and smears. people are tired of being manipulated by fear. people want hope and optimism and a steady
hand to help guide them through troubled times. john mccain and the gop have just offered more of the same. more slander.
more fear. more lies. and if they lose, that'll be why.
obama is the single child of a hard working single parent. he struggled to put himself through school, eventually became a lawyer with a degree from harvard, and then worked
with displaced people in his community before working with the illinois senate. he has a great wife and 2 lovely daughters.
he's principled and honest and steady and competent.
how is that not the perfect example of the american dream?
he's worked hard and accomplished much, and that's what the american dream is supposed to represent.
you can dislike him, you can choose not to vote for him, but your vote should be cast based on real issues, and not based
on the deceit and slander that has been coming from the republicans.

What's really sad.
What's really sad is a large majority of people in the right wing call themselves "Christians".
for the record..
insofar as historical accounts and reliability go, it appears you are just regurgitating whatever fashionable axioms or straw man arguments the mainstream media, huffington post or factcheck.org spoon-feeds you.
you accept these talking points as "facts" without subjecting it to analysis, explanation or skepticism to advance your argument that obama is the seraphic "chosen one" without blemish and that the vast-ring circus is engaged in a reckless smear-campaign.
hogwash!
many hard-core, traditional republicans are divided on the viability or effectiveness of the mccain bid. many conservative and ultra-conservative journals such as the national review, weekly standard and the american conservative have been very critical of mccain on issues, his selection of an inexperienced running-mate and the economic bailout fiasco.
of course, you have the luxury of your "celebrity" to hide behind or worse, the convenience of a "delete button" to ignore counter-points.
if you are a clear-minded neutral observer in this election, please consider my observations in this regard. please note, i am not a mccain supporter.
1. obama's tax plan of redistributing wealth based on penalizing higher brackets, repealing bush tax cuts and inexplicably adding new programs will lead the country towards a socialist state with more and more tax dollars falling under the weight and mercy of the massive government.
this claim is no exception to obama or democrats. the current administration is "nationalizing" banks and other businesses as prescribed by Leninism to concentrate wealth and authority within an elite vanguard turning our fine republic into a permanent welfare state.
the end result will be a contrived totalitarian economy and an erosion of your civil liberties as a natural consequence and a loss of financial independence.
further, socialism can cloak itself effectively under the guise of capitalism if you assume financial luminaries such as warren buffet's association with obama somehow excludes him from the "socialist label".
fabian socialism in its current form is headed by david rockefeller in this country and the rothschilds and warburgs in europe.
Alexander hamilton wrote in the federalist papers: " a power over a man's subsistence amounts to a power over his will".
in other words, fabian socialism is using the current capitalistic model to slowly and incrementally meet its own objectives. it's currently happening and most people are not even aware of it.
2. according to early school records obtained by jim corsi and phillip berg in Indonesia, obama's transcripts indicated that his faith was "muslim". the school he attended for 4 years was a christian/catholic school. obama's biological father was a muslim. obama's step-father in indonesia was a muslim. obama's family in kenya are muslim. (see l.a. times article on march 16, 2007 and daniel pipes.org for further clarification)
so this begs the question, if obama is a muslim apostate (murtadd), how will this affect our relationship with the arab street if he is elected president regardless if you hold a fundamentalist or liberal interpretation of the koran?
there is so much more data, testimonies and eye-witness accounts that are available which would substantiate oabam's muslim faith.
3. the name hussein is arabic in origin and meaning. see point #2
4. how would you react if mccain initiated his political career in the living room of david dukes? when obama was pressed to answer to the widespread accusation of his radical associations during the last debate, he looked into the camera and simply lied to you.
obama and bill ayers' relationship goes back almost 12 years beginning with the woods fund and the annenberg challenge where one of their primary duties included funneling money into left-wing causes such as acorn and factcheck.org.
stanley kurtz has comprehensively reported on what transpired inside bill ayers living room years ago using many key witnesses in attendance that night.
5. there are currently 3 known pending cases filed against obama, forcing him to prove his status as a "natural born citizen of the united states" beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law complete with documents and collaborating evidence.
thus so far, obama's team of lawyers have tried fruitlessly to have these charges against him dismissed.
Why? what is obama hiding if he really is a "natural born citizen" of this countyr? why would obama spend the money on someting that could easily be debunked if he was really telling us the truth? why hasn't he released other pertinent records such as his complete medical records, college transcripts and birth records?
and lest you or factcheck.org forgets, the certificate of live birth posted on obama's campaign site was proved by several document experts, forensic examiners and genealogists to be a forgery. deeper and more technical analysis of obama's "birth certificate" from his site revealed many discrepencies and irregularities.
obama's hands are not clean in this election. while you generously praise his virtues and lambast the gop for what you consider "slander", you are failing to acknowledge obama's clear history of lies, contradictions and distortions out of what i presume to be a prejudice or dislike of the opposition.
WOW! How ignorant can Republican Campaigning be?
...here is some great campaigning in California coming from the right wing republican party funding (using the catholic church and the good young catholics)...I go to church and believe in a god, but would never do something like this...I have to say, WOW! How ignorant!...as if taking away the right of gay marriage in California...would force the catholic churches to accept gay marriages...they would never do so anyway. Gays don't marry in a Catholic church?!..and the state is not allowed to force the church to do anything...church and state are still seperate, right? In California it will never go through just like in NY, but look at how they try...here is the video...

here is a definition of the proposal...
Proposition 8 is an initiative measure on the 2008 California General Election ballot titled Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry.[1][2] If passed, the proposition would "change the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California."[3] A new section would be added stating "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."[3]
The measure was originally submitted for the ballot by petitioners with the title "California Marriage Protection Act."[4] The title and summary were revised by Attorney General Jerry Brown to more "accurately reflect the measure."[5] The Superior Court of California ruled in favor of these changes, stating, "The title and summary is not false or misleading because it states that Proposition 8 would 'eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry' in California. The California Supreme Court unequivocally held that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry under the California Constitution." [6]
I just have to say, WOW!

Hey Moby,
Did you see Eminem's mea culpa in his new memoir about the incident (and unforgettable pop culture moment) at the 2002 VMAs involving himself, you and Triumph?

I know this is so six years ago, but I was curious about a few things. He stuck his fingers "basically on your nose"? (his words) Also, did he ever personally apologize to you for what happened and let bygones be bygones?
PS - Teany rox.
Absolutely Correct
It pains me to think that as Americans we might overlook the value of actual family in the consideration of whom to elect our president.
I think it exhibits strength of character to look after one's family during difficult times, and not weakness, as the opposing party would like to push forward.
I'm glad you made the public statement that you did, because it is also a testament to your character.
That Palin woman was on TV tonight bashing Barack claiming she has more executive experience. She clearly has no concept of the difference between Federal and State governmental structures.
Barack - having worked in the Senate, at least knows the difference between the branches of government. And for this, and other reasons, I remain true to pushing for his election.
Much Respect,
Chris B.
