And you may want to look up the definition of the freedom..it's not just measured by the ability to buy Gucci, Versace and spend vacations on St.Tropez (for very selected few KGB aparatchiks). There is no free media, press or even a single opposition party/journalist that doesn't fear for their lives. The Regime of Fear will only lead to the destruction of any freedoms you have left and you better stand up for it.

By the way..crude oil prices are down over 35% in just last two months. Every dollar decrease is $1 billion less in the Russian economy. Not good news when you also consider the mass exodus of investors, high inflation and falling ruble. Thank Mr.Putin for that!

As for you economy, you may want to pick up Financial Times or some other reliable newspapers to realize that the Russian stock market is down 40% since the Georgian invasion and investors are leaving Russia in droves.

stalkel-you must have had ORT or another gazprom owned station on and not CNN or BBC (and the statement that US government "presses on" foreign media channels like bbc is just ABSURD!..sorry). As for the accurate casualty report and who invaded who you may want to visit Human Right Watch site (providing kremlin doesn't have that blocked for you). It's sad to see free and civil young people of Russia being brainwashed by "oil-drunk" silovniki!

I'm from Russia.And I was shocked when I heard news on Cnn and BBC.Georgian forces invaded in South Osetia, distracted Zhinvali and killed thousands of osetians people!They attacked even our peacekeapers!Of Course Russian Federanion forces answered immedeately . Yes,our forces got into Georgia but they attacked only soldiers and bases.And CNN,BBC knew that.But american government pressed on em.It is so dirty and unhonestly.And after that they sae that you are living in free democratic country?..
sp is on a rite way.
We don't need war.But when someone attacks our civilians, we will answer.

no the main stream media don't seem to be into taking it upon themselves to keep us updated about the climate change situation. I'm not sure exactly what the reason is for that but would like to know and I may do some of my own investigations at some stage soonish.

If you want to know more about climate change yourself, two very good books to read are - "Six degrees" by Mark Lynas, and "Heat:How can we stop the planet burning" by George Monbiot

I'm part way through reading "Six Degrees" at the moment and so far I've found out that even with a one degree rise in global average temperatures we'd be in serious trouble. Apparently huge chunks of the western usa would become uninhabitable due to severe droughts causing desertification and also enormous numbers of people around the world would be without a water supply due to the disappearance of glaciers which feed rivers.

I remember seeing you getting interviewed about climate change for some tv station moby, and when they asked you about your own carbon footprint, you admitted that it is a disaster. I've noticed lately that you keeping flying backwards and forwards between the usa and europe and/or the uk... rather than staying in one geographical location and performing or doing dj sets wherever you want to there before taking off on your next international flight. So are you doing anything to offset those carbon emissions? buying up some pieces of land for reforestation? Did you know global greenhoues gas emissions need to be reduced by 90% to prevent a runaway greenhouse effect?... (the runaway greenhouse effect being the one that we don't know if we can survive as a species). Although some cliamte change campaigners and scientists etc might say that 90% reduction needs to happen by 2050, there has been plenty of scientific evidence coming out recently to indicate that in reality, climate change is happening much faster than ipcc scientists had been formerly predicting. Some indications are there which suggest that we are right on the tipping point and that a runaway greenhouse effect might even be in the process of beginning already. It wouldn't surprise me if the 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions needs to happen tommorrow if not sooner.

So if use of fossil fuels in airplanes and in cars etc needs to be drastically reduced (say by 90%) in the immediate near future to avoid very catastrophic climate changes, who would you expect to inform you about that? Your government? The mainstream media? a local NGO? a good samaritan going round door knocking and informing people? would you expect to have to find out about it yourself by doing your own research? do you expect (if/when it really is that urgent), that legislation will be put in place on time that puts marked limitations on how much petrol people can buy per week and who can fly in airplanes for what kinds of reasons? (if say, barrack obama gets voted in over there) ... or would you expect that everyone would be left to figure it out for themselves (somehow) and then take it upon themselves to reduce the amount of travel they do in vehicles driven by fossil fuels, in good a responsible manner? if the latter would be the case, who would you expect to amongst the first to make the necessary changes in their own greenhouse gas emissions (use of fossil fuels etc)? celebrities and other people who care about the environment and have been in support of the environmental movement for quite some time? big businesses? owners and investors in oil companies? the many average citizens of the usa who don't have a particularly big carbon footprint individually but whose collective carbon footprint would be rather huge?

It's worth thinking about isn't it?

Don't forget us blue at heart who sadly live in the red states. You have to adopt us too.

Aside from the fact that "invasion" requires someone's army on someone else's territory (which isn't happening in Georgia, but does happening in Afghanistan), it's funny how you call one thing "an invasion", and the other one "war".

Too bad our countries have to fight and shamelessly lie to their own people to achieve their interests. And though it's kind of obvious I would've said that, but apparently, this time Russian media is a little more honest.

I have a friend who says that only in collaboration humanity is going to survive through all the threats of the future.
