does anyone understand why hillary is still in the race?
i mean, really?
she can't win.
i've written about this before.
let me be rational, practical, and democratically blunt: she. cannot. win.
unless the democratic superdelegates ignore the popular vote she can't win.
she's 170 delgates from winning.
barack obama is 40 delegates from winning.
there are only around 100 delegates left to be won.
so why is she still in the race?
honestly, what is she trying to prove?
that she's capable of bankrupting herself and her campaign in the interest of placing second?
her arguments are creepy.
saying that michigan delegates should be seated in full.
does she think that we're dumb?
that we don't know that barack obama's name wasn't on the ballot in michigan?
it's so creepy and undemocratic and, again, creepy.
it's not misogyny.
if she were in the lead obama would've dropped out ages ago.
if barack obama had no chance of winning he would've dropped out 2 months ago.
and we would all be supporting hillary.
it's simple: she lost.
it's just simple arithmetic.
oi vey.
what is she hoping to accomplish?
sowing the 'blue collar voters and old women are racist and won't vote for a black man so the party
should vote for me' seed?
what does that accomplish?
pandering to older voter's baser instincts and fears?
how does that help the democrats in november?
i used to really like hillary, now i'm just baffled by her intransigence, as i can only see it serving selfish and
absurd and arbitrary purposes.
why, again, is she still in the race?
is there a good and rational answer?

thwarted ambitions
she is a strange woman. she couldn't even normally pronounce the russia's president last name, which is absolutely unprofessional for a politician...not speaking about her comments..
"Mr. Obama looked expectantly at Mrs. Clinton, who grabbed for the ball. “Well,” she said with a chuckle, “I can tell you that he’s a hand-picked successor, that he is someone who is obviously being installed by Putin, who Putin can control, who has very little independence, the best we know.”
Partial credit.
Mr. Russert pressed on. “Who will it be? Do you know his name?”
“Um, Medved ——,” Mrs. Clinton began. “Medvedova, whatever.”
Close."
NYtimes
Let's look out for each other.
Not sure how productive your comments or "critique" might be, but I would ask: just how well would YOU do in an on-camera pop quiz in the ever-changing category "World Leaders?" Your posting seems, well, silly.
I am a HRC supporter who also supports Obama. Both would be awesome presidents, both have almost-identical politics, and they both ended the race SO VERY CLOSE. I will be proud to vote for Obama for president in November.
I refuse to make snarky comments about either candidate. I invite you, Moby and all the posters to join me in this and re-focus, here. McCain will win in November, otherwise. Uncool.

HUGE FAVOR MOBY!
My name is chris Sullivan, A local Radio station here is doing a contest called "who do you know" I was wondering if you could take the time out to call into the radio station. I'm sure it would take like 5 mins out of your day. The last time the station did it Ellen called in and she won. I know you'd blow her out of the water. The prize is a new car and if I won it I'd be giving it to my little brother who needs a car bad. He's been driving my old car which was my great grandma's car. It's 32 years old has no A/C and we live in Arizona. If you could possibly call in for me that would be amazing! The number is 877-937-1047 just has to be before 10am Pacific time.
THANKS SO MUCH!!

hillary
as longer as she stayes in the race the chances for the democrates to win the election has to get smaller day by day... so, can't she just admit that she didn't win.
hillary
i just think she has a right to stay in the race if she wants to. who are we to tell her when to quit? maybe there are some young girls out there who are inspired by her or anyone for that matter who gets jeered by their peers. i just hate how the democratic party always disses itself and its candidates. can't we all just respect each other, cut each other some slack and work for the greater good without being super critical of each other? lets save that for the republicans and insane policies. it weakons the whole party when you cut down any candidate just for being in a race when it seems like all hope of winning is lost. anything can happen. hillary has done a lot of good in her lifetime. i am sure it would make it easier for you if she quit now, or last month, but she doesn't take the easy way out, nor should she. peace out.
Why should young girls
Why should young girls admire someone who has lied and is trying to cheat her way into the nomination? I would love for a woman to be president. But not this way. If she truly cared about "the greater good" she would have stepped down a long time ago. It isn't Obama supporters who are tearing the party apart.
she may have done a lot of good things in her lifetime, but this race and the way she's acted isn't going to be counted amongst them. Quitting would be far more admirable than what she's trying to do now. It's hard not to be super critical of Hillary supporters when we're all trying to think of the greater good of the country and not Hillary Clinton's ego.
the answer
is in your last sentence, ilikegiraffes. Very simply put, it's Hillary's Ego being the reason why she's still in the race. Her whole life she dreamed of being the 1st female president & it's not going to happen for her. She's not the ideal female/person for the position, anyway. She should have conceded a while ago and joined in supporting the Democratic party.
"For the night draws women and stars in a better light."
As a Michigander who had the
As a Michigander who had the (mis)fortune of being in Washington, D.C., over the weekend with all the protesting and the whatnot, I am also stymied. In Michigan, at least on the east side of the state, the support is overwhelmingly Obamanian. Additionally, most of us don't think the Michigan delegates should have been seated because the voting for our primary was altered in several ways based on the lack of Obama on the ballot, knowing ahead of time that this primary wasn't supposed to count in the long run, etc. I would have gotten out of work early to vote for Obama in a real primary, but I wasn't willing to do so to vote Undecided in a fake primary. It is not good data. The frustrating thing was being in Washington and having the Clinton supporters screaming about how "we count every vote in a democracy" without addressing "even when the opponent isn't on the ballot" part. And knowing that most of them were not actually from Michigan or Florida...
why run when you can't win
Dude,
She knows she's not getting the nod. So does her husband. And Ickes. And every member of her executive committee.
However, what do you tell John & Jane Q. Public who contributed $50 to her campaign? What do you tell the people going to her campaign office that believe in her and make 1000 calls a day on her behalf? She promised to stay in for the duration of the primaries, which thank God (whom is always great and has an even better sense of humor), will be over tomorrow night.
She will make her concession speech at some point on Wednesday. It's only a matter of when it will be: lunchtime, mid-afternoon, dinner time or prime-time. From there, she will make speech after speech to help Obama get elected. She won't be the veep nominee.
As a former Dem volunteer who went door-to-door in a town that was overwhelmingly Conservative, it can suck sometimes when your person loses. When the candidate you're supporting is McGovern or Dukakis, make it triple.
When Obama wins the election in November, we'll all sit back and probably laugh at this. Until then, grin, bear it and see if the Catholic priest that did the Hillary impression during the church service is available for my kid's birthday party. He was kinda funny.
Priest taking a vacation
The Priest should have no problem making an appearance at your child's birthday party.
His fee has just gone up---since he is currently unemployed. The Cardinal has told him to "take some time off" to reflect on his racist statements.
Obama spent 20+ years at this church. What does this say about his judgement?
Rev. Wright and now this---the Republicans will have a field day with this in the upcoming months.
Why should she quit?
From Moby in December of '00: "a- gw bush lost the popular vote by 300,000 votes."
Hillary is currently leading Obama in the popular vote. Why is this no longer significant? Because Obama is your horse?
Obama took himself off the ballot in Michigan to appease Iowa voters. Not Hillary's fault. A vote for "other" was a vote for Obama. Or Richardson. Or Edwards.
Hillary beat all three of them combined.
Finally everyone is having their voice heard on who the Democratic nominee will be. Why is this a bad thing?
Obama is winning the "points" lead (IE: delegates). Like in 2000 when Al Gore had 500,000+ more votes then George W.----we may have a candidate that the majority didn't want.
But until Obama "clinches" the delegate magic number (hopefully the electoral college and delegates will no longer be the measure on who wins in politics)---which he may not do after tomorrow---this race isn't over.
If Obama is the nominee for the Democratic party----he only has two real choices for his VP.
1. Hillary Clinton. It goes against his "change" message (he still hasnt said what exactly he is going to change). Not likely to be the choice.
2. Wesley Clark. He is a big supporter of Clinton and will help Obama in the swing states that he needs to win in November if he wants to be president----Ohio, Penn., Michigan, FLA, WVA---states where Hillary Clinton beat Obama SOUNDLY.
Again, I don't see Obama beating McCain in a general election because of his performance in those swing states. Like in 2004, Democrats will find a way to lose an election that should had been impossible to lose.
hillary
i heard on cnn that if she stays in the race she may be in a better position to be chosen as vice president. staying in the race may increase her chances of attracting more voters, which may be a demographic obama has difficulty attracting. therefore, she may have a better argument for being VP.
also, since she lent her campaign so many millions, staying in the race provides her more time to raise money.
so far that's all i know but it seems like there are other reasons than getting the nomination for staying in the race.
When do you stop, when to you admit to yourself that it's over?
Two items I saw this morning make me wonder if Ms. Clinton isn't getting a bit delusional. One item on a news sight says, "Hillary new strategy, steal Obama's superdelegates", and from our friends at the BBC, that reported this morning that Hillary says that she will not respect the delegate count, that she will win in a popular vote. I think it is time that Bill pull her aside and say, that's it dear, it's over.
And let me just say that as a resident of Denver, we are not all that thrilled with the DNC coming here, we keep hearing rumors about "68 in 08" (meaning rioting in the streets) counts of between 5000 and 50,000 protestors coming to town, and approximately 30,000 media types coming to cover the convention. Please leave my city on one piece!
not exactly rational
OK, this isn't exactly a rational answer as to why she's in the race, but a coworker of mine insists she wants to vote for Hillary over Obama. She says it's because she feels he doesn't have enough experience yet, but she is an older lady and could secretly be racist. I kind of doubt it, but who knows for certain.
Just figured I would share. Also, in case you'd like to get a feel for where that piece of demo is coming from - a wealthy suburb of Atlanta.
Cheers!
