a random list:

a random list:

a-yes, i love pantera.

b-'the crystal ship' by the doors is a great song. not their best, but pretty great.

c-every song on the doors first album('crystal ship' was on 2nd, no?)is
flawless.

d-getting ready to go dj at hiro, i'm actually mainly looking forward to listening
to mehdi and tommy. and beer. not listening to beer. although it does speak
to me at times, in quiet, dulcet, white-trash tones.

e-chemical brothers 'hey boy hey girl' is a great song, too. i think i'll play it tonight.

f-i like coffee a lot. not as much as beer. or different, rather. differently? different?

g-i saw a picture of michael stipe today and i thought it was me.

h-is for hillary, who is getting lots of bad advice.

i-i really like edward gorey. i think that tomorrow i'll go buy some more edward
gorey books.

j-i'm going to mexico in a few weeks to do 3 shows with underworld. oops, was
i not supposed to announce this? sorry. i hope they play 'rez'.

k-i'm looking at an action figure of homer. he's hitting spider pig on the butt with a donut.

l-i have an odd love for/of portable organs from the 60's. not internal body parts from the kennedy era, but metal
and plastic and wood keyboards that sound like the sir douglas quintet.

m-i also really love old drum machines. someday i'll take pictures of my old drum machine
collection and share them with the world. that's assuming that the world is interested. which, to be honest, it probably isn't.

n-i'd probably be less annoying and sell more records if i wasn't such a compulsive blogger. i seem to have tourrette's of the blog. but what are you going to do?

o-'tourrette's of the blog' sounds/is disgusting. 'blog', although ubiquitous and in common useage, is still a pretty disgusting word.

p-south park, 'bigger longer uncut' might be the best movie ever made, especially the skeet ulrich poster above the devil's bed.

q-pantera and south park, i'm pretty high-brow. that's what a philosophy degree gets you; a love of speed metal, cartoons, bud light, and drum machines. bertrand russel would be proud. or ashamed. or indifferent. probably ashamed.

r-i'm going to try to go to the end of the alphabet, i still have 5 minutes to go until i leave for hiro.

s-once my studio is up and running again i'll put more songs up on mobygratis.com. i'm sorry i haven't put up anything new in a while. mea culpa.

t-i kind of miss miami. and austin. and mexico. and, well, being warm in general. remind me of this in august when it's 1800 degrees in nyc and the pavement/tarmac is evaporating and dogs are spontaneously combusting on the sidewalk.

u-patagonia. i'd really like to go to patagonia. only problem is it's far away and they don't have good deli's. or so i've been told. maybe they do have good deli's. a good deli is the single greatest achievement of western civilization. pennicilin? dentistry? air travel? sure, all nice, but where are they at 4 a.m when you need a burrito?

v-rob riggle on the daily show is really funny. i'm not sure if that's how you spell his name. see, i'm a cultural pundit. i guess that's what bloggers do. they pundit. i know, that's not a verb. thanks.

w-it's pretty clear that if i had any self-respect i would've stopped writing a long time ago. i owe my success to a lack of shame, a lack of self-respect, and an inability to do anything practical. if i wasn't a musician i'd be probably be selling water damaged fireworks behind a waffle house in nebraska.

x-i really love x. the band. and the 80's colloquial street name for mdma. mainly the band. drugs rot the brain, even if they're fun. alas, they still rot the brain. which is sad. if they can put a man on the moon and map the human genome why can't they make recreational drugs that aren't bad for you?
it's a valid question.

y-for 'yes'. my first concert. at madison square garden. i was in the 2nd to last row and i saw
nothing, but it was really cool being out late on a school night. 'and you and i' is a really good song to listen to if you're on a date in washington d.c and your date has a nice car with a good car stereo.

z-time to go to hiro. i can't believe i still love dj'ing as much as i do. i'm lucky.
ok, have a good night.

mob

Yes

Your first concert was really Yes? Wow, I can't believe you like them. Not that there's anything wrong with that (I love them myself) but they aren't a group I'd associate with electronic musicians who are obsessed with David Bowie and Joy Division.

Just wanted to say thank you

Just wanted to say thank you for doing what you do. Its so nice to be able to throw on songs like Memory Gospel, Chord Sounds, Blue Paper, or Everloving after a long day and be able to just relax and get away from everything. Just wanted to say thanks for creating such beautiful, haunting, and inspiring music...

I like what you like

i really love the fact that you blog a lot and evidently care about your fans. The only bad thing is, if I met you, you'd seem too human and I'd be less star-struck than I would for a more stuck-up celebrity. I think it's awesome we like a lot of the same things - I love Pantera, seen 'em perform twice before darryl got shot - once in the 6th row in West Palm at the ampitheater (heaven knows what it's called now, different corporate sponsor every year). I love the Doors, too, I have a sticker on my crappy '99 Corolla next to the "no W" sticker - you know, crossed out like no smoking, and I love to blog - -I have a B.A. in Creative Writing - maybe an iota more useful than philosophy. I like lists and south park and healthy eating - I was a vegetarian for 3 years in high school but all the men I live with (or married to, in this case) are/were hard-core carnivores and when you work 2 jobs it's too hard to make separate menus. I also like your politics - very similar to mine - and being sarcastic and fastidious (spelling?). My husband is jealous that I like you so much but he likes you too that's why I'm not banned from enjoying your work. And the michael stipe thing - yeah that's funny I have that issue of Spin as well - got a free subscription for attending VoodooFest in New Orleans in October 2007 -great show - Smashing Pumpkins and RATM headlined, so did Tiesto but he trainwrecked so bad I didn't even watch his set at ultra - he did so bad even the candy kids were leaving and we all hit Bourbon St - U better come to New Orleans next year and play at Ampersand!!! Oh yeah and you, as a vegan would hate the food in Patagonia - it's beef, beef beef there - there was an episode of "No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain" there and even he, a major meat-eater, was sickened by what they did to the bulls . . . .

now i know my abc's...next time won't you sing with me

i'm sorry but you can't possibly love x more than me. the band not the 80's colloquial street term for mdma. maybe i would have loved that just as much if i had ever tried it.
there is probably some me in a parallel universe that is having fun rotting my brain. i am probably the evil twin.

and speaking of identical twins, you and Stipey could pass yourselves off as them nowadays. not that there is anything wrong with that.

your random list - L

I am not sure what this has to do with the letter L?

"l-i have an odd love for/of portable organs from the 60's. not internal body parts from the kennedy era, but metal
and plastic and wood keyboards that sound like the sir douglas quintet."

Is it L as in love?

How about L for link? :p We need a link to the boards...

Star

blogging sauce

do not lay off it! i enable the addiction, not sure if that sounds too proud, are there good waffle houses in omaha? no deli's in patagonia, not much western influence there the more reason to go, at least to go roam where all the gauchos are..love the new album, curious if you will be making an appearance with underworld in apw
toodles

jane

I actually got the newest issue of Spin in the mail with Micheal Stipe on the cover and for about three seconds thought it was you. And every time I walk by it on my desk I think.. what the hell is Moby doing there? And then remember. It's pretty odd.

And I'd be far less entertained every morning if you weren't such a compulsive blogger. So much I wonder I feel a little sad when you haven't blogged in a couple days. It's pretty addictive, honestly.

crystal ship is the first

crystal ship is the first album i think

crack me up

hey, thanks for that. you crack me up - on regular basis. congrats on 'last night'. great to see it well placed and well stocked in the major record stores - it looks good on you. also, finally, loved the 'billboard' review. you're not getting bad reviews this time.

kindest regards

Some words about...

e-You listen Chemical Brothers? Interestingly. I too listened to them once,
and now occasionally I listen. But I like song "Star Guitar" more, this video especially is good.

t-It has especially amused. In Russia, by the way, too there is such hot weather, what melt asphalt. I didn't see self-inflammable dogs, that, probably, well.

Thanks.

P.S. your diary now is in Russian.
Here: http://moby-diary-ru.livejournal.com/

M is for Moby who blogs and blogs

in regards to...

n - Wow. I've read all your essays and they're super and informative and moving. Now I get to see a new side of your writing which is informal and witty. And it makes you so real. There is more to Moby than great music and a brilliant mind. Moby can be a smart ass too. It endears you even more to me. So please don't stop the blogging.

i - Edward Gorey is so the man. The Gashlycrumb Tinies is in my top 10 favorite books. "K is for Kate who was struck by an axe." being the most memorable line. Though Xerxes is also a good one. Gorey can bring out the morbid and happy feelings all in a few illustrations. What a genius that man was.

j - Viva Mexico! Can you please post a picture of you in an authentic mariachi sombrero?

o - "Tourettes of the blog" is all wrong for you. There is not nearly enough cussing in your blogs. And the tics associated with tourettes could put a kink in your shoulder and thats just bad for spinning. I'd like to introduce you to O.C.B. Obsessive Compulsive Blogging. No spewing of obscenities and better rx drugs. Just remember to wash your hands after every entry and before and during and flick the light switch 5 times after blogging every time or the world will explode and Bush will be magicaly elected for a 3rd term if you don't.

p - Seriously Southpark... best movie ever? I'm not going to judge you but maybe you should open up your scope a little bit. Of course I've seen Harold and Kumar go to White Castel like 80 times to perhaps I'll shut up.

s - Just when I thought I couldn't love you more, you put up mobygratis and I've found a glorious new exalted level of love for you(cue angelic choir). I'm so going to put a Moby song in my movie if I ever get along to making it. Do you like zombies?

z - I hope you never get tired of djing or making music. You bring so much joy and peace and passion into our lives and you'd have this collective weeping crowd gathered around outside your home threatening mass suicide if you ever did. Let that be a warning.

I'm looking forward to owning the new album soon. From what I've hear so far it's great. <3 I own every one of your albums and I couldn't be more proud to be a diehard fan from the start.

BTW Animal Rights is my favorite album.

Please come to New Mexico again soon.
I'll make you a pie. =)

The Doors

C. "The Crystal Ship" is on the first Doors album. I can't believe no one said it. :(

save the boards.

Gorey

Amphigorey Also is one of my favorite books, and I recommend it if you don't have that one already.

Hi.

"if they can put a man on the moon and map the human genome why can't they make recreational drugs that aren't bad for you?
it's a valid question."

It sure is, I think it's a control issue, slaves are not supposed to have fun, if a slave's eye's are opened to how little they need in life to have fun and enjoy themselves, there's less chance of them going to work, in order to gain wealth to buy all the "goods" the powers that be want them to think they need in order to be happy.

A thing to consider also; not entirely related, but still, before the criminalisation of marijuana, many product were of hemp; shopping bags, clothing and so forth. After: those products consist primarily of nylon and plastic, putting more cash into the oil buisness.

98% of the wealth on earth is owned by (approx) the top 500, or "fortune 500". Ha! And they call people on welthfare unpatriotic and bad for society. :)

Yeah, good site here Moby(and crew), I actually came for Moby gratis, but this is a pretty decent blog, uhm.. yeah. Great.

Global equalism FTW!

Nothing will benefit human health or increase the chances for survival of life on earth as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.

a new fan

Hi Moby,

I just watched your vegan videos on epicurious.com. That's so cool that you're a vegan. I'm a new vegan and I'm so excited about it. I've been writing about it a little on my blog.

I enjoy your blog entries. I like your stream of consciousness writing style.

I like the song "Beautiful" that you have featured on your home page. Hope to see you perform or dj in FL sometime.

Best
Kris

random question

this has nothing to do with anything..but i have a question...need lyrics to "i love to move in here" any ideas? thanks.( in french with english translation)
